Its been tried before Stoops.

It has never worked in the past and it will not work now nor in the future.

Why these defensive masterminds keep trying it here is beyond me.

Hell at this point I think we could put 14 guys on the field and play a 5-5 and it wouldn't work either.

IMO the 3-4 can only work at places like Bama, LSU, etc. where they have access to the biggest, most athletic Defensive Linemen in the country. As much as we like our Cats, our DL doesn't fit that bill. And even they choose to go 4-3. Square peg, round hole.

Totally agreed...this has been one of Stoops worst decisions at UK to switch to this scheme.
1. Archer, Minter and now Stoops/Elliott have tried this and all times it has been a mess.
2. To have to recruit 3 interior bigger DL spots (with depth) vs. just 2 DT spots in 4-3 is just common sense. The DE spots in a 4-3 can play at 250-260 lbs and be fine in college game.
3. We have no coaching experience in the 3-4...Stoops has been a 4-3 DE at Zona and FSU. Elliott has never coached in 3-4. And from the looks at Bob/Mike in Oklahoma...none of the Stoops know squat about 3-4 defense.

Another really dumb idea by Stoops that has lost his job for him in a matter of time (along with not hiring a QB coach until this year, no special teams coaching, whatever the crap Korem was doing, hiring all recruiting on no teachers until Gran/Hinshaw, etc..)

It all hinged on the recruitment of Elam. They were telling him he'd anchor the D in the middle and they'd recruit around him. The biggest blunder any coach in any sport can make is changing your whole philosophy based on one player.

Not a fan of the 3-4 at UK. And not a fan of 'needing' 300-lb DL. Hell, USM's DL averaged 265 and they were flat out whipping our OL in the 2nd half. I would rather us have an undersized but well-coached and aggressive DL than this abomination we continue run out there year after year.

Grantham at Louisville plays the 3-4, I think, and has had a lot more success than us. Their Defense has been ranked in the Top 5-20 over the last 3 years. And, we have had better recruiting classes and players.

So, for those saying it is the 3-4 scheme, makes no sense.

And people use to laugh and complain about Jerry Claiborne's wide tackle six.

True except the recruiting rankings don't include transfers or guys who get kicked off the team before playing any meaningful minutes. Look at the rosters right now - who has more talent on the DL today?
