I've had some of them, excellent choices. Honorable mention Bedford Hotel, Pennsylvania. The Landmark, down the street.

Just from in and around State College:

The Field at Toftrees (also good sweet potato fries as well)
Spruce Creek Tavern
Forest House Hotel just northwest of Mifflinburg along 192 (go on Tuesdays for $2.25 burgers, fries and dogs)
Prospectors along Benner Pike
State Burger Co in Bellefonte

all of the above are fresh cut and D-Lish.

Best I had were the ones at Eulogy in the Olde City section of Philly. Too bad the restaurants hut down years ago but getting the Mussels and Belgian Frites were a treat.

The Duckfat Fries @ Duckfat in Portland, Maine were outstanding

Years ago did a plant tour at Lamb Weston in Washington. The one plant I visited were running the McDonald's fries their Japan locations that still use the old recipe with beef tallow. They cooked up in the test kitchen and they were incredible. Too me back to my younger days

Agree with Forest House. Stop there about three times a month.

because you need to know......

I've had Thrashers and they are good.
I think most of the Boardwalk Fries places have closed but they were always very good.
As an aside 5 Guys burgers and fries are pretty good.

Out of country but I really liked the French fries in Comayagua, Honduras (Central America) at the Del Corral Super Market restaurant, J & J Grill. Very fresh potatoes, mildly thick cut, not greasy at all, and very lightly salted. Delicious.

Anywhere in France and Germany will have excellent fries for the most part. My wife’s go to when in Paris is the goat cheese salad, fries, and a glass of Chablis at Les Deux Magots.

Have not had Duckfat fries but was in Portland this summer and some little brewery right next to the cruise ship dock/museum had really good ones

I wasn't aware of what I was doing and ordered a large fry at The Original (The Dirty O!) around midnight one time (1978?). Got a cafeteria tray of great fries. I ate every last one of them. I always remember those fries as the best I've ever had.

Alcohol may have been involved.

I've been to Bubba's 33 in Fishers, IN, and of course to Marlows in Gahanna (not too far from me). They have real water ice. Not sure you really can call it an Ohio place, though, as they are run by a family from Philly.

Don’t crucify me for this, but 5 Guys make some good fries.

Is it true McDonalds is considering bringing back their original fries cooked in that delicious meat fat? They were too good for fast food.

That would be dangerous (since I had heart bypass 9 years ago). But as I mentioned earlier I had the original Mickey D fries at the Lamb Weston plant and they were the best I had ever had in many years.

Mad Chef in Lancaster has delicious Belgian fries . I first had Belgian fries as an Army brat in Germany . It was a new taste experience. Plenty of great dipping sauces to choose from and nice craft beers to quench your thirst.

Some of the fries listed look tempting but there are rules. Waffle fries are not fries, they are garbage. Also, no respectable fries should ever be violated with truffle oil, if it can’t stand on its own, you are doing it wrong.

As a snob purist, give me a classic version of Papas Fritas using only potatoes, water, oil and salt.

Agree on the purist version. I order waffle fries when the fam wants chik fil a. I cannot stand the taste of their chicken. And the sweet potato waffle fries at The Field at Toftrees my family likes, they are tossed in a hot honey sauce, which is very good but certainly strays from a pure “fry.” If I’m there alone, I get the basic fry. If it’s a family meal, we get both.

i have to ask, what do you think waffle fries are made of? Generally they are my favorite, but unlike sweet potato fries, waffle fries are made from potatoes .
