Oh you'll know when you are in the giant mother-ship being probed by the creators to inhance their new "human" design...you'll know, and you won't like IT!

Dad flatlined and was brought back. He told us later that he remembered being in a state of pure energy (was impossible to explain). Did not see or hear anyone but felt their presence. Who knows if it was just a hallucination but when they brought him back he was beyond pissed because he was so happy in his other state.

Kinda surprised this post has not turned into a royal trainwreck creation/evolution thread.

The brain is the product of evolution via the chemical chain reaction we call life, not consciousness. Consciousness is not a thing. Rather, it's a process of the brain.

There is no such state of "temporarily dead." There is only alive and not alive.

A coma is a state of deep unconsciousness that lasts for a prolonged or indefinite period. In this state, the process of consciousness is not functioning.

Dreams occur as part of the brain's process of cleaning itself of metabolic litter. The brain's meningeal lymphatic system performs this function whenever the brain is unconscious. This is normally done during sleep, which is one of the reasons why we sleep, but can certainly occur during a coma.
Now tell me where you copied and pasted that from so I can chEck its legitimacy

Edit: I didn't say temporarily dead I said brain dead. Yes people can temporarily brain dead I know this because it has happened in real life. Not in an opinionated world

Double edit: I am not a Christian but I do believe in before life and after life

They are my own words. The concepts are products of my education.

You said "temporarily brain dead." The term "brain dead" is a misnomer and is not scientific. Death is not an opinion.

Double edit: I am not a Christian but I do believe in before life and after life

To believe is to accept without evidence. Evidence precludes a necessity to believe.

I had a grandmother die about a week ago and have a mother in law and uncle with late stage cancer so it got me thinking. If it were my time to die, what would I want the afterlife to be like? The three most popular choices I believe are Heaven, reincarnation, and just fade to nothing. Each can have some positives to choose from. Let's say hypothetically they all are legitimate choices. Which do you choose?

Heaven - No one really knows for sure what it is like. The Bible says stuff like a city with streets paved of gold, crystal clear waters, gates of pearl, and walls made of precious jewels. So it sounds like Beverly Hills. Others believe it is full of virgins. Overall a very positive place it seems.

Reincarnation - Dying and getting a chance to come back and do things over again and try to improve on your previous existence is interesting. The only problem is supposedly you won't have any memories of that past life. Plus who's to say you won't end up being born to a poor family in a 3rd world country. If you can come back to a similar situation as your past life and go from there, then that could be promising.

Fade To Nothing - This one seems like a negative, but I think it could go either way. If you had a rough existence and just want it to be over with, it could be a possible choice. While Heaven sounds great, some may not want to be around for an eternity. So I could see this being a somewhat popular choice.

So of those choices I could see a reason to choose each. I think I would ultimately choose reincarnation to try and improve on what I accomplished in this life. Plus I've always felt like I should have been born in the future and would love to see all the technological advancements over the next 70 or 80 years after this life is over.

So what do you all think you would choose of those options? Let's try to not turn this into a religious war and keep things hypothetical.
The "afterlife" is exactly like the"prelife" so since you've already done it for trillions of years before you were born why be afraid of it or worry about it as you will only wind up masking your fears with some form of religion.

Religion literally is the fear of death. The rationalization that it isn't the end and that something else will follow. The need to put a face and a name on a vast incomprehensible nothingness.

You came from that. From an eternal expanse of time that only fleetingly is interrupted by your life. Enjoy it instead of fretting over boogiemen under the bed and make believe clouds where eternal life spares you from nothing more than the blankness from which you came.

Live like you won life. The biggest lottery you ever played in.

Good post.

Religion is the sigh of the oppressed creature, the heart of a heartless world, just as it is the spirit of a spiritless situation. It is the opium of the people. ~Karl Marx
