The announcers comments today have been very damaging for our program

Vern wanted to tell a story and stopped, Gary said to him "go ahead, you got 30 minutes" - ouch

That we are are a basketball first school (by our own choice).
And
That we have lost 29 straight times to Florida.

Both are true.
Both are true, but both have 0% to do with what we're seeing today.

We have plenty enough football support for even a mediocre team, and this UK team started the game 0-0 against this Florida team.

Stop. Our play on the field has done more damage than anything they could say.
This. I think we've damaged ourselves. What are they supposed to do? Pretend we aren't being waxed by an unranked team? We are embarrassing and they are merely telling it like it is.

They blamed "fan culture" for the mess that has been created by Mitch Barnhart by citing a couple of fan calls to radio shows. I don't think I've ever heard a more clueless statement in my life.

Pretty weak OP. Yeah it's annoying but they didn't say anything that wasn't true. How about we play some damn football instead of whining about announcers.

Some posters on here blamed the fans earlier this week for last weeks loss. Going to be interesting reading excuses for the staff this week. Some posters have really stuck their necks out to defend stoops.

Right. They had every right to blast what was happening on the field and the job Stoops has done.

But they miss the mark as to the why.

How can one respect a team or program that has lost for 30 straight years against a league opponent? Sure we are going to get jokes and negative comments. They are laughing at us and have every right to do so.

Ehh...He wasn't wrong. Say Tennessee beat Alabama the third Saturday in October and just hired Pearl/Cuonzo/Tyndall....whoever and they were going to do their Big Orange Madness (whatever they call it.)

Do any of you really believe their first caller would have been asking about the new basketball coach? Beating LSU was the biggest win weve had since the 1950 Sugar Bowl. I was in Knoxville and immediately l drove back to celebrate. I can understand in the course of a two hour post game show it being discussed, especially here the week of BBM. It was the first frickin call. It's symptomatic of the problem with this fan base.

What's wrong with supporting BOTH sports?
Many traditional football powers do very well in basketball as well. UNC, UCLA, hell even Dook is a pretty good football program now.
Gary and Verne said what a lot of the SEC think but, were a bit off in the cause of UK's continued failure on the football field.

Because our decision makers make bad hires. End of story

Every UK fan I know was celebrating the football win. You couldn't even get cell phones to work after the game because the fan base was so lit up.

The anecdote about the call-in fan was meme worthy but hardly scientific.

Point blank, the fan base isn't to blame for the condition of the football program. And certainly not in the manner implied.

If there's any blame it's that fans have been too understanding through the years, and too willing to spend on a mediocre product.

I'm with you man. Those of us on the Lair will live and die with this football team, just like the Cubs and Browns. In hindsight you're right, I sincerely doubt Verne was listening to WLAP that night.

What he said.

Wish this message could be sent to Danielson. Correct synopsis of the view of our conference brethren but not the root evil.

I just saw this thread, but noticed right from the outset today that these guys sensed that they were not about to call a very good contest.

Members of the CBS crew spend time around the team during the week and I have a feeling that they sensed a bad vibe around our program.

Then, the game was putrid. Offensively, this performance reminded me of Couch running the option in the Swamp in 1996.
