Did our last HC in Mbb or WBB (at the end) have a strong work ethic?
Did our fb hc after schiano?

I don’t believe any according to that article someone posted before. His connection is only to Rutgers.

Guess it won’t be strange anymore if this MacConnel guy isn’t hired??
MacConnell

....and it would be "strange" if he wasn't a finalist "just because" there's no direct connection to Pikes.

Any time you have a list of criteria to make a decision you typically have of weighting in terms of importance so direct connection to Pikes may be a criteria but low in terms of importance. So I agree he could still be on the list of finalists. Additionally, if he is that hard and fast about having a connection to him, he could miss out on some potential great options since having that connection does not mean anything in terms of performance.

Wonder if whoever Pike brings in will jump T.J. is the assistant pecking order .
I doubt MacConnell will be willing to come in at the bottom of totem pole
and anyone that thinks Brandin will accept staying at #2 while Pike brings in a new #1 might think again the moment Knight jumps ship.
I feel Pike will move Thompson to #2 Knight to his top assistant , making a relative newcomer to the coaching profession , but a great recruiter, third man on bench or move Scott Scherer into it

Thanks! I had no idea who the guy was until a couple weeks ago.

I'm just going off prior "inside info" that it would be "strange" if MacConnell wasn't "hired".
And now it's down to 5 and "some connection to Steve".
Not "connection to Steve or Rutgers".
That would seemingly eliminate MacConnell.

But I'm just trying to parse the differing inside info depending upon the day of the week.

It's gone from strange to not be hired to strange if not in the 5 finalists.

Then hire Jon Mitchell

Brandin Knight was already the top assistant. He was not #2. TJ Thompson is a young guy. Putting in his time as #3 assistant should not be an issue.

Agree that Pike needs to handle the role/title of the new guy very carefully. I want to get the best candidate but also want BKnight not to feel slighted since he's a great coach.

I expected over 2 weeks ago when the Hobbs news broke on Georgia Tech
that former DePaul and UVA HC Dave Letaio to be a likely candidate. He has a strong resume and is a good recruiter with prior Pike and UConn connections. He is definitely one of the more qualified candidates who can move things forward and has run programs before.

Was told:

Down to about 5 guys

Strong work ethic required

Some connection to Steve

Humble w necessity

No need to have a connection or connections to current recruiting targets
Who are these 5 candidates and what do YOU think the rank order is / or should be? When do you think a decision is coming?

Thanks

Dave Leitao is one of the more intriguing candidates since he has won back to back titles in the Overtime Elite league coaching the City Reapers. It wouldn't be a bad thing to have recruiting connections to the OE talent.
