Avent Brothers are pretty good live. I've fallen out of love with them a little bit, though.

Isbell, otoh, is tops in my book at the moment. Seeing him next month at the Ryman in Nashville. Stoked for that.

I saw Isbell at a small club in Orlando in May. He was fantastic, absolutely rocked. One of the best shows I've seen in years. I imagine seeing him as an opening act in an arena show would be totally different, since most of the time the crowd doesn't pay much attention to the opening act. But, Isbell is a major talent live, at least in the rock show/club setting.

Saw Sturgill and Isbell at the Ryman last year. Loudest audience clapping/yelling at the end of each's set I've ever heard at any venue. This will be my fourth time seeing Isbell. He's as good or better live than his albums, which is saying something. Also, this is his first show back after his baby was born so I'd say he will be all pumped about her. The Avetts never disappoint. Great stage energy. One of my favorite live acts ever.

only the lower arena was for sale. By the time The Avett Brothers came on it was maybe 2/3 full. There were a handful of sections totally empty. It seemed like it was much more full 2 years ago. Then again there wasn't a Luke Bryan concert 2 years ago in the same town.

They aren't big enough to fill Rupp. But not many acts are. The Taylor Swift show 2 weeks from now isn't totally sold out yet. But there aren't any midsize venues in the area. They aren't big enough for Rupp, but last year they played 3 straight sold out shows at the Palace in Louisville.

Why isn't Alltech Arena at the horse park a viable mid-sized concert option? Fairly new, I would guess it would seat 6-7k for concerts, easy interstate access...etc...

A long time ago (mid 80s) I saw REM in Memorial Coliseum. Do they ever have concerts in there anymore? They could easily arrange the seating for anywhere between 5,000 - 10,000, which would be ideal for an act that isn't going to fill Rupp.

They have like 1 a year. Last year it was Tyler the Creator, I think the Lumineers the year before.

UK SAB does a fall concert every year, last year it was Chance the Rapper, not Tyler. This year it's Miguel.

I'm guessing unless it's a school group UK isn't willing to deal with it at Memorial.
