It isn't out until Friday, but has anybody lucked out and caught an early screening? :)

Reviews and spoilers are flying freely online at this point. I don't give a damn about spoilers (in fact I actually like to know a movie's plot as well as possible before watching it), so, just a few spoilers that I've read about the film so far that I like:

* Like most of his comic book incarnations and unlike most of his movie incarnations, Batman goes out of his way not to kill anybody or let anybody die. To me, Batman's no-kill rule is one of his most interesting and defining traits and so I think it's great that it's finally being featured in a film.

* The movie's takes on Catwoman, the Penguin, and Falcone aren't wildly divergent from their print counterparts but the Riddler's been totally reinvented as a vengeful serial killer. Relative to most of Batman's other well-known villains, the Riddler has (with a few notable exceptions) usually been presented as a lightweight (or even treated as a total joke) so it's cool to finally see him portrayed a legitimate top-tier threat.

* We hear Barry Keoghan's mystery character (a disfigured Arkham Asylum inmate) speak but we don't get a clear look at him, so the speculation that he's playing the Joker may or may not be correct. XD

I'm seeing it on Friday morning. I mostly love going to the theater and I've really missed it during COVID.

I’m odd that way, too. I often read spoilers before I see a movie.

I think it just looks bad. It has also been done to death.

I think it’s weird that this is the first solo Batman movie that isn’t coming out in the summer (from 89 Batman to Nolan Batman- strictly a summer job).

That leads me to believe this is a trash movie. That and the amount of marketing they are pumping out.

Seriously though I just can't see him as Batman and with my two least favorite Batman villains (Catwoman and Penguin) playing prominent roles it seems, I'm just not to anxious to see it. Those same 2 characters were in the 2nd Michael Keaton Batman movie and it was my least favorite of all of them across every Batman iteration.

It is getting killer reviews, much darker (pun intended) than most previous takes.

I will see it at some point.

I've got Batman fatigue at this point. My favorite Batman from the comics will never see the screen. Too much masculinity, too much of a punisher type. Tall, brutal towards evil, and not so much of a gadget guy like the 60s TV show and modern times. He wasn't self-righteous. He knew he was a flawed character but struggled little with taking it out on the villains.

The guy playing Jack Reacher would make a better Batman than most that played the part. Tired of the fake growling gimic. Tired of the poor continuity. Just want it to go away at this point before they make him sparkle in the daylight...

A group of us talked about going to see it together months ago. I said only if they're buying the bourbon. Might have to be scotch now that I've seen Pattinson in one of the trailers. He just doesn't look the part. Still looking for a designated driver for this one

Spot on.

When I watched Reacher, I thought to myself that this is actually the best representation of Batman we've had. Ace detective, peak physical shape, a great fighter but also a tactical thinker, and a loner.

When I bought my ticket to James Bond's No Time to Die and was getting ready to go in, the woman in the booth said, "You know this movie is 2 hours and 43 minutes, right?" I was like WHAT?! Had no choice as I had already bought the ticket and I enjoyed it but short of it being the last Craig movie, I would pass on most other films with that run time.

I can no longer do those LOTR type runtimes. That's a "I'll watch it periodically over a day or two on a streaming service a few months from now."

I agree. I stopped watching these movies in 2015. It's just the same stuff over and over again. Burnt out on all of it. Think of how many Spider-Man films and adaptations there have been in less than 20 years? How many times have you seen the same scene of Bruce Wayne's parents dying?

Go down a toy aisle at your local Target or Walmart and look how much of it is just re-releasing the toys from the 80s and early 90s. Go on Netflix or Peacock and see how many series are just reboots or remakes of 80s and 90s stuff? Throw in the superhero comic book stuff and it's just one endless unoriginal loop where nothing new is ever attempted because that's a risk whereas the other stuff is just easy money remaking established franchises.

If they made good, original movies then the superhero stuff would never have never gotten this big. They just can't tell a damn story without theft, sex, drugs, propaganda, extreme exaggeration, or modifying the original story. They are just incapable, and we, as their audience, reward them for telling childish stories.

Haven't really been affected by a movie but once every 8-10 years on avg and nothing in the last 15 years. Can't remember an original story that wasn't sci-fi or fantasy in that time

I was disappointed in the last Bond movie, but all good things must eventually be crushed into sauce... It was too long. Wished I'd watched it at home, but I appreciated Craig's portrayal of the character over the years. Best since Connery imo.

I complained about the edits and changes to LOTR, but now that you mention it, they needed to cut it down even more or divide it up into 6-9 movies. I was miserable sitting in the old seats longer than 90min.

I've been at the point where I need to cut off movies and shows from my life altogether. They've taken up way too much of my time, but there's little else in the way of entertainment I'm willing to wade through anymore. I once liked live music, plays, art openings, and lectures, but there's less and less quality/originality there and the prices are astronomical in terms of money/time for the benefit. Might just need to quit cold turkey and suffer the DTs for a while.

We're almost to the end of it now. They're getting close to making the zombie superhero stuff that should squeeze the last of the dollars out of most people's pockets.

I'm not burned out on superhero movies but I don't watch many of them. I haven't even seen a third of Marvel's movies and aside from Nolan's Batman trilogy, I've only seen three DC movies since 1997's Batman and Robin. I've seen a few of the Marvel Disney+ shows but aside from a few pilots I haven't watched any of the modern DC shows. So The Batman's a movie event for me. I'm going to watch the Penguin and GCPD shows on HBO as well. :)

So mediocre. Almost every actor for every character took a step back. Far too long. Cheese at times. Not a lot good long takes of Gotham (I like good cinematography and loved the shots of Gotham in both of Nolans last two batman movies.). Love Paul Dano, but he was laughable. Barry Keoghan, who is a fantastic up and coming actor in Sacred Deer and the Green Knight, was in it for 16 seconds and used as name bait.

I just don't get the love for comic book movies. If batman didn't have a pointy eared mask you can't convince me people would like this. Im also fairly sure the audience was groaning at times. No idea why it's getting great ratings. Blast away at me. But by buddy who is a huge batman fan walked away unimpressed as well.

And side bar: neither of my two friends I went to see this with, saw Sicario. I only mentioned it to them cause it was in TV last night while I waited to go to the 10pm showing of batman. I figured if they wanted to see a more adult movie, they must have caught Sicario at SOME point, right? Wrong.

And that's just mind blowing to me. People will go see the 16th Spiderman movie, but didn't get around to something like Sicario because "it's too dark/don't like those types of movies".

Like someone else said above, these movies have become lowest common denominator movies. Same **** i saw 10 years ago. Wash, rinse, repeat. Batman wasn't bad but it wasn't good and I definitely would have rather been asleep instead of at the movies from 10pm to 2am.

I like all of the onscreen versions of Gotham that I've seen but my favorite so far is Anton Furst's design from the 1989 movie. My favorite takes on Gotham are when it's shown as an almost otherworldy hellhole.

Yeah so was it just me, or did this film just not have much in the way of showcasing Gotham.. or even, anything really in the way of cinematography? Granted it was late and I was literally starting to fall asleep (not a slight on the movie, but just that it didn't START until 10:30pm, and was well past when I'm usually winding down for the night).

I thought it was pretty bland. Its peak is the first time Batman appears on screen and beats up the goons, there's nothing memorable after that. I never really watched Reeves Apes movies because they didn't look interesting and this turned out to be the same way. It did feel like Tim Sale's graphic novel The Long Halloween though... I think he should have tried to adapt that. Also, they should have used the Joker as a prequel to this.

I've heard the comparisons to Se7en and other Fincher movies... and while I sort of can see it, its still a far off comparison. Movies like Se7en and Zodiak were masterpieces. I'm not even sure it's on par with Alien 3 (but admittedly have a soft sport for that movie)

Even had a friend try and make some comparisons to Blade Runner and finally had to be like "Let me stop you right there"..

It will be a discount matinee viewing for me sometime the next few weeks. 6$ ticket... will determine if it's my last Batman movie like that miserable last Bond flick was.

I'll see it tomorrow or Tuesday. I was going to go Friday but I slept in.

For those who need another Batman fix, the next movie that features Batman comes out this summer. ;)

I saw it yesterday, thought it was great. The ending was a little ho hum after the riddler portion was done.
Could’ve cut several scenes out at the end, or shortened them, but I imagine the success of the Snyder cut was a reason they didn’t.
It’s not “ Dark Knight” good, but it’s good.
