Big rivalry game this week at Tom Mitchell Field at Gary Little Stadium. Just be thankful we have moments like this to shed the thinly-veiled disgust with our neighbors, colleagues, and in-laws. "Aside from you, Jerry, everyone I've ever met from that school has been a complete $#*/&head."
"No hard feelings, Phil. Is your [famous alum] going to be at the game, or is he still serving out his sentence?"
"No, that judge really had it in for him. I heard he was sleeping with the prosecutor. Wasn't he in your class?"
"Two years ahead. At least he sleeps with girls."
"Well, good luck in the playoffs <for the Prep Bowl>."
"See you at Thanksgiving?"
"Hope not."
"Same here."

Can the MC ground game keep the BR O off the field enough to make the game interesting in the 4th quarter? I think they can and will but BR prevails 34-24

I shut my chamber door and hung my bowler. The window lattice, shaken playfully by the lake breeze, was the only other sound contesting the echoing beat beneath my sternum. The cloudless night allowed enough of the generous moon's light into the study that only the desk's lamp-light needed to be lit to begin crafting my SR-LA prediction.

I took the goose quill from its holder and plunked it into the ink jar. My mind raced as I excitedly imagined taking the buggy into the townsquare and nailing my prediction on 'Ye Olde Edgy Tim's Pole'. First things first. I pulled out my finest parchment and with my quill began writing the reasons for dear, old St. Rita's upset over Loyola Academy. I wrote about the incredible character and fortitude the Mustang lads had shown up to this point. To have lost, then won in one week and then to have won then lost the next and then to slip by the host Dante. The violent running game, the artful aerial attack...Edgy's pole would never be the same. The DSR street urchins would be beside themselves.

The hounds of Hell that protected the estate barked ferociously, and then nervously until they whimpered. "What have they just witnessed", I thought to myself. Before I could finish that thought, the stream of moonlight illuminating the study vanished. In the flickering lamp-light, I could make out a crude outline of a humongous creature dressed in MAROON and Gold. Was the legend true that befell Lord Feeto for a week after picking the Ramblers as an upset victim? The half-man, half-Gronk glared deeper into my soul. The quill shook in my trembling hand, "Alright, big guy, take it easy", I barely stammered audibly.

I wrote down LA 38-32. In a flash, two large, white mitts came crashing on to my desk. The oak legs buckled and the desk crashed to the floor. My heart racing, I fumbled for the quill and crossed out 38 and put a 45. The large creature flared his nostrils and disappeared as quick as he appeared. My head spinning at what I just witnessed, I gathered myself and summoned for the carriage.

MC at BR (*formerly presented by Wojo’s now The Mystic)

Kind of a bad matchup for MC here. Would need Rice to still have grass and not the turf and have it rain like week 3 of ’08. The defense has struggled with Griffith gone, a projected starting LB gone and Cousart strictly on offense after staring on defense last year. With the way BR distributes the ball they will be hard to stop. Can’t just double Smalling. Smalling had only 2 catches vs Crete and they still scored 61. MC would need to play their prototypical keep away game. Unfortunately, they have been turning the ball over. First offensive play of game vs Rita for example the fumble and TD. MC would have to not turn ball over once and hang around and see what happens. I hope I am wrong: 42-21 Rice. After the game feeto and go_rice go to The Rusty Nail and karaoke to Why Can’t We Be Friends.

Loyola by three scores although I thought the same of MC v Rita.... 45-28

MC did not look good and they seem to be having QB questions. They seemed slow and not your typically coached MC team. The Rice QB seems to be firing on all cylinders and there appear to be at least three impact players on offense. This game will determine if Rice is an 8A contender or just a quarterfinal hopefully.....35-21 Rice

Montini and De and Iggy and Francis should both be pretty good games favoring the home teams.

Fenwick and Laurence will roll

AC and B Mac will come down to who is healthier, that is a hell of a commute

Joe's and DePaul is a good one but he Joe's back is pretty damn good, thought he would have moved to Montini. Saw him as a soph.

It depends on which MC team shows up. Some have said this was a trap game for Rice, but I beg to differ. Their trap game was last week against Providence. MC had their trap game last week against Rita (hold off on hating me for saying that Mustangs, I am just going on how this year's Rita team was perceived on this board and elsewhere). For the life of me, I can't see the Caravan not being fully-prepared for this one, and I think that Rice will get their biggest challenge since week 2 against Crete. While Rice's D has been, in my opinion, pretty damn solid, Crete exposed their biggest weakness in the broken play. If MC comes out ready to throw/run equally, it could throw Rice's D off big time, particularly with the amount of time the unit has been on the field. If MC moves the chains, keeps Rice's D on the field and the defense off, it could spell trouble for the Crusaders. And from an emotional standpoint, I just can't Frank let a potential loss to Rice to sit will. Expect the Caravan to be way up for this game. I expect for Badke to have Rice up as well. But, there's a real intangible here for what's really at stake for the Caravan: at least a brief respite of their 35-year dominance over the Crusaders. I hope I'm wrong, but I am going 35-20 MC. And no, I'm not sandbagging.

I think since the game is at DeLaSalle that DLS wins a close one at home. This means Montini would have to run the table the rest of the way and beat Mt. Carmel to make the playoffs.

By the way if the Cubs win the next 3 out of 5 regular season games then my prediction at the beginning of the year having them win 104 games come true.

I expect SR to get overwhelmed in this one. Loyola has suffocated them the last few times in Wilmette, and the talent and size disparity this year is significant.

I just want to see SR fight hard and not back down. Go Rita.

MC in an upset by 3? Or they lose by 21? MC has to keep it outside the hash marks. If they keep the option in tight they will punt all night. My bet BR easily.

LA by 10 to14 pts. LA goes up big early but SR makes it a game in the 2nd half but no question to the outcome.

PC I guess by 2.

Fun fact: when the Arizona Cardinals' franchise started in Chicago, they wore the hand-me-down uniforms of the best football team in the Midwest - the Original Monsters of the Midway- the University of Chicago Maroons. With the colors faded, Racine Normals' (they played at Normal Park on Racine St.) owner Chris O'Brien remarked, 'That's not Maroon, that's Cardinal Red!' And the Normals changed their name to the Cardinals.

Now back to your regularly scheduled CCL prediction thread

Capacity crowd expected at The Gary Little tonight.
Blue:
MC @ BR (predictor BR 35 MC 21) - High scoring: BR 56 MC 49
SR @ LA (LA 41 SR 14) - Huge trap game for the Ramblers. 'Stangs have the best kickers in the state, bar none. LA 16 SR 15
LFA @ PC (PC 46 LFA 6) - They should play an alumni game. Their 13-1 '04 team lost to BR by 1 and beat MC by 1 in the final. If those same guys suited up, 2 days of preparation, I'd say they could win 21-18 over this year's team.

Green:
F @ MA (F 28 MA 14) - Friars 28 Cadets 7
MCHS @ DLS (DLS 20 MCHS 17) - Meteors in the mud. Institute 35 Paul VI 14
SF @ SI (SI 26 SF 19) - Wolves 21-20

White:
BMac @ AC (BMac 41 AC 12) - Past performance is no guarantee of future results. Irish 14 Iggles 12
Leo @ SL (SL 41 Leo 7) - Blackmon goes easy on the alma mater. Vikes 24 Lions 0

Red:
TECH @ SJ (Tech 20 SJ 14) - With this win, Coach-of-the-Year Petroski this year will match the Chargers' win total for the decade of '01-'11. Chargers 24 Rams 8
