Ok by me. Pretty sure they earned the right to say whatever they want.
When I came home from Vietnam and was discharged from the USMC I spent time down at the Jersey Shore. Then I hated all those Coast Guard guys who were stationed there defending the girls on the beach. But time heals all wounds, and you really can’t dislike people who make better choices than you.

Let’s try this. Were we the first to steal it?

I don't think so. I think a few folks seem to think PSU initiated this chant during the Cotton Bowl in the 1940's based on something one of the Suheys may have uttered. But, I think both USC and Marshall pre-dated PSU's co-opting of this statement.

In any case - the Coast Guard using it is not a big deal.

I also seem to recall a commercial showing people walking through Grand Central Terminal, with a "We Are!" slogan. The commerical may have been a cell phone commercial. But, every time I saw it, I would respond back appropriately.

I know the CG was in Nam and that they were often involved in some very dangerous activities. I was referring only to the guys that had the really sweet duty on the beach. I had a great many laughs with them back then about the absurdity of the whole situation. Sorry if that’s too difficult for you to understand.

My dad's friend joined the Coast Guard to avoid the draft and the possibility of going to Vietnam. Guess where he was sent?

As a USCG veteran, I take pleasure in seeing the crossover.

Also, I was at Great Wolf Lodge in the Poconos this weekend and all their staff shirts have."We Are" on the back.

I was at Highmark Stadium in Pittsburgh for the East Division championship of the Premier Rugby Sevens League. The sound system blares Zombie Nation and at the appropriate place, two guys behind me shout the appropriate response.

There are many things I do not understand and your snarky ending comment is certainly one of them. Have a nice day. Semper Paratus and Semper Fidelis.

My dad was in the CG during the Korean War, and was stationed just outside of NYC. He likes to point out that the Koreans did not invade NYC on his watch.

He also is pretty sure he dined regularly at the "cheeburger cheeburger" diner parodied on SNL.

Our cheerleaders stole "We Are" from the USC cheerleaders. "We Are" had nothing to do with the 1947 Cotton Bowl, which is a virtuous PSU Football story without the "We Are" myth.

I’m a retired Coastie (30 years all CG).

The CG has served in all of our conflicts and had a very high casualty rate. Landing craft and landing ships at Omaha and all the Pacific Island invasions were manned by Coasties. Destroyer escort duty as well.

In Vietnam a fleet of CG manned 82’ patrol boats worked the rivers and ocean coast lines doing boardings, incredibly dangerous work. One the 82’ WBP’s was struck from the air resulting in casualties - by the US Air Force.

Right now there is an entire flotilla of USCG patrol boats over in the Persian Gulf conducting boardings at sea and commercial ship escort duty.

When I enlisted in 1977 we were a “small service with a big mission”. Most of our ships were WWII Navy hand me downs. Now the CG Fleet is fully modernized. The best in the world. The USCG actually has the worlds 6th largest Navy in terms of number of vessels.

USC chants We are SC in unison. PSU modified it to a call and response, which made the We Are identifiable on its own.

Hold up their Mac, those “Few Good Men” narrowly evaded a murder rap, and were given a Dishonorable Discharge. I was in a few scraps while in the Corps, but managed an Honorable Discharge.😁😃😆😀😃😂😅
