My opinion only. Country music died in the 90’s. For those that still listen, good for you. I can’t. Grab all the old cd’s I can find from the 70’s and 80’s and forget the rest. That’s just me.
Good comment. I, too haven't followed CM for a long time. But, this a good production to see the CM stars of today down home for real.
Free of glitz.

I'd go back to the 80s for the last time country was good. But, that's just me. I always preferred jazz and soul more, anyway.

I like a song or 2 by nearly all of the people on country radio now. I like all kinds of music including some pop. I decided years ago that just because radio calls it country doesn't mean that I have to. As country, it sucks, but as pop, it can be ok.

Nobody asked me, but the fake or way overdone twang by the bro country guys is the part that I dislike about current country. I’m not a huge fan of any of them, but Luke Bryan is the closest guy that sounds ok because he actually talks like he sings. The songs aren’t that great though (IMO, of course)

Then there are groups like Little Big Town that can just flat out sing. I can handle them. I’m surprised they haven’t made more of a crossover jump. They’re doing fine though, I’m sure.

That's part of the reason I dig Morgan Wallen. Some of his songs might be bro-country but that dude is a redneck.

Saw Garth Brooks live when he was just catching fire, live in Nashville. Clint Black was the rage, but Garth soon overtook everyone. I didn’t get it. Never cared much for him, but I’m obviously in the minority.
You’re not. Garth IS the door to pop country. He took market share of overweight, pina colada drinking, moderately unhappy housewives away from Jimmy Buffet and rode the wave of fan hood like a ten-gallon Liberace on a surfboard.

Next thing you know idiots in the early 1990s that liked Billy Ray Cyrus claimed to have found their Led Zeppelin in cowboy boots.

Let me tell you another funny story, New Jack. Back in ‘74 the great Charlie Rich was named Country Musician of the Year. Then in '75, he had to hand the award off to the new one. And you know who that was? Mr. Sunshine on my cotdamn shoulders, John Denver. Can you believe it? Well, I'll be damned if Mr. Rich didn't pull out his cigarette lighter and light that award on fire in front of everyone.

He's not kidding- Charlie Rich actually did it:

Now THAT takes balls.

I laughed when Taylor Swift said she was going to pop. No Taylor you have always been pop. Throwing a mandolin or banjo lick on a song or 2 doesn't make you country.

I like a lot of modern country, like Luke Combs, because you can hear the Skynard and even Springsteen influence.

But there again will never be country music like Hank senior.
You can't watch this and then say that dude ain't a redneck.
