The current roster is already better than last year

Remains to be seen but imo that's a better roster than this year, definitely far more athletic, and obviously we are still going to land 2-3 more transfers. Need a big especially. I'd like to see them get a rim protector C and a stretch 4. And another scorer like Pierre.

The depth is already better for sure. Gotta get a good PF

I don’t know about better but it’s well on its way. I think we’ll miss Butler’s defense and right now we have no PF. It’s also tough losing Brea’s shooting.

But otherwise it’s a really solid roster with just a couple more pieces.

I have no way of giving an educated opinion on this since I’ve never seen half those players play (other than in highlight clips). And I’d bet the same applies to most people here.

But, just from first glance, it does not look better to me.

Improved scoring and athleticism with a loss in experience. Defense remains to be seen but other than Butler I didn’t feel like anyone was exceptional from last year. I concur need some rebounding and rim protection let’s get Alvaro locked up first. We’re not gonna bring in a portal center if Garrison and Moreno are both playing that position. I’d love to move Garrison to backup PF where he played at Ok St and get a top center to pair with Moreno.

IMO, better through the developmental-contributor end of the spectrum, not as strong through the ready-to-go end.

I think that roster has more Talent than last year, and if Pope can get the same amount out of them as he did last year it will be an even better year. Still probably add a piece or two as well.

I would be pretty happy to get Folgueiras at the 4 spot.

PG Lowe/Lewis/Perry
SG Johnson/Chandler
SF Oweh/Williams
PF Folgueiras/Noah
C Garrison/Moreno

Hope we add another PF. I know Pope wants Noah to add some muscle, probably to play a small ball 4. Still, would rather have a 6’9+ kid at that spot.

I don't think it's better at all. We're missing a guy like Jax, Brea and Amari. Lowe and Butler can be called a wash, although Butler was an absolute demon and winner. If Oweh can get that hitch out of his 3 point shot (his mid range is smooth and doesnt have that hitch), maybe he becomes Jax, but then that means we need a guy that performs like Oweh. Before he got hurt, Kriisa is a better backup Point than what Perry will be. I trust Pope to fill out the roster, but right now I believe we are worse.

*Edit* Maybe Lewis/Jasper can replace Kriisa's/Brea's production. But nowadays, Freshman are hard to rely on.

I think it’s better.

And the returning players will be better.

They will also be ahead on knowing the system and help the new comers adapt quicker.

The foundation was laid this season.

Now Pope builds on the foundation.

We were a very good team this season. Had we stayed healthy it’s possible we could have been talking greatness?

But we will never know.

Pope is team building. Not star building. He’s program first. Not player first.

He’s not trying to win the draft. He’s trying to win games.

I’m not sold on this latest signee. But I am sold that Pope wants to win.

So I trust he thinks this guy can help us win.

Sorta dumb to ask this question without a full roster. Just the 3 freshmen injects a lot more talent. Add in the returning players and we are way more talented.

We are currently ON TRACK to have a better roster, absolutely.

But still need one more really solid perimeter piece IMO (Pierre, Thomas or Yates ideally), and need to shore up the 4/5 spots.

Add one of those 3 perimeter guys (Pierre, Thomas or Yates ideally), Alvaro, and at least one or 2 other bigs (Mgbako and a rim protector) and this roster blows last year's roster out of the water.

No way not yet. Not close. And certainly not a title contender. Compare this roster to this years FF teams.

Wondering if the people who don’t like Garrison are the same ones who were ready to run Williams out of town back in January?

1-10 is better.

1-5 I believe is weaker than a healthy last season

Missing a 5 unless BG/MM take a big leap. And I believe senior Jax is better than Freshman Jasper until I see the productivity play out otherwise; due to that, I think we need another 3 level scorer at the 2 and let JJ be the backup

1-10 weaker if compare when roster was all healthy. , stronger compared to the last weeks when Perry, Chandler and Noah were part of rotation.

If we want to compete for number 9 , we should consider that right now we have only one starter: Oweh.

Lowe, Williams, Garrison, Chandler are good subs.

Perry and Noah should be allowed to develop as they are our boys, ideally towards the end of the rotation.

At least one of the freshman freshman: Moreno, Johnson, Lewis if not all , will become major contributors cause they are talented.

We need more players. Right now biggest hole is at PF , but we need upgrades at PG, SG and a big 7 ft plus center.

Garrison has good physical abilities. His decision making , especially in a system where offense is generated though the 5 ,is not at a starter level. Moreno has better IQ and skills than Garrison but he is freshman and will take time.

Maybe, but we need a dead-eye 3-pt shooter(s) with size (someone other than Perry and Noah). I’m hoping Pope gets a couple SF’s, PF’s who can shoot.

Right now as the roster stands :
PG - Lowe / Lewis / Perry
2G - Oweh / JJ / Chandler
SF - Williams / Noah /
PF - Moreno
C- Garrison
Desperately need a stretch 4 and rim protecting 5. I do not think Jasper starts, believe Williams and Oweh man the 2/3 spots. Williams rebounds enough to be the 3, also the 1.4 steals and 1.1 blocks per game help. Love the 4.5 rebounds per game. He played the wing at Tulane.

I just don't see it as better unless we add more than that.
Of course you wouldn’t because you have an agenda. Nothing short of trying to get Beard Pearl Oats etc will be to your liking. And if they came in and recruited the rankings of players they have you wouldn’t be happy again.

I’ll add this.

—Jasper Johnson #13
—Moreno #27 MCDAA
—Lewis spread between #20-32 depending on the recruiting site

If Johnson and Moreno weren’t from KY and Cal was still the coach, we’d be starting all 3 of them (at least 2 of the 3) and expecting a minimum of 1 (prob 2) to go pro after their freshmen year.

I do think we are all guilty of underselling them now as a result of portal obsession and cal-clense. 1 of those 3 will have a breakout year imo
