You have to understand , we lose more by the fans giving up than paying a buyout on stoops

I was pointing this out a few weeks ago. That plus when you calculate the expected revenue losses from dragging a dead coaching tenure around for a couple years you soon realize the buyout is cheap. The only way that buyout is prohibitive is if we are stagnant at 6-6 for longer than we will tolerate 6 wins. But when your program is falling apart and you are facing empty stadium then the buyout isn't an obstacle. You have to get out of the situation we are in no matter what the buy out is.

The politics are going to be more interesting.....not really. But this team will be lucky to win 5 games.

I hate to be one of those guys who always tell you how long they've been a fan so I'll just say I'm in my 50's and have watched this program since the early 70's.

That said, we are not going to win 5 games. Last night was more of a setback than most people understand. If we don't scrap this entire thing and start over (once again), I'll never see a winning program in my lifetime.

the difference in firing him at the end of this season and at the end of next year is 12 million and 8 million

So is the loss of revenue worth that 4 million dollar difference ?
Add in the assistant buyouts, probably double that total but your point would still be valid. Mitch has a major problem that even the Mike Slive money can't cover.

The problem is...we make so much money off of the SEC tv contract that empty seats do not hurt us as much financially as it once did. Yes they are lost revenue but when you are getting a big check it doesnt hurt nearly as bad.

That's known in union circles as being a "free rider." And we should be EMBARRASSED to be fans of a program that doesn't pull its own weight in the conference. We're just freeloaders sucking the teat of the real SEC teams.

I think this is the right mindset...the lowering of seats in most stadiums...it really points to the TV revenue that is the main money stream.

THis would have been so much easier had Mitch not handed out that looney extension halfway thru Stoops 2nd year.
- Stoops/Marrow even with the faults...have upgraded the talent level at some spots (not DL or OL) and the next coach would have an easier transition.
- And we'd only have 1 year of Stoops original contract to buyout (and not Schlarman's silly extension to boot )

The buyout money is one factor, but I don't think it is the major factor in not firing Stoops.

The major factor is the guy doing the firing essentially writes in big bold letters "I HAVE MISSED ON THREE OF MY LAST FOUR MAJOR HIRES."

If Mitch was new to UK and was not the guy that hired Stoops, the seat would have been extremely hot after last season.

Stoops apologized last night. If he were really sorry, he would quit and leave the buyout.

I hope he finds it in his heart to quit .... Do us all a huge favor so we can find someone else who will be the next to fail. It won't ever change

Mitch needs to go after Art Briles now. Spend whatever it takes to buyout Stoops, Gran, Handshaw and every other ASSistant. Briles is the only one who has a chance to win here. Everyone else is like Stoops, a big CRAPshoot

We do PULL our weight. We are the 2nd bye week / guaranteed win for all the SEC contenders. Playing us helps ensure someone has the wins to stay at the top of the pols or at least make a bowl.

And with the facilities we have now, the talent we have on roster, I think we could attract a decent named coach. It's not the bare cupboard team playing in HS facilities it was just a couple years ago when we had to settle for a DC showing Mitch a great vision. A decent coach would look at our roster and facilities and tell Mitch "yeah buddy see ya on Monday."

You see how our offense looked in the first half ? Now think about Brohm taking those guys over. Or Art Briles
