Okay, so I am an old school guy, and truly identify with the old regional alignment. I known it's been 5 years since it was in play, and we aren't going back, but I remember back in the day, Region B, at least in Division 2, one of the toughest regions you could possibly compete in, and the team that made it out of the Region B playoffs being really battle tested, so I did some thinking yesterday on the five years we have been in the West vs. East system and did some research pundits might be interested in as to how the old regions have fared.

In 2A
Championships: Region B 3 (2011, 2012, and 2015 (both Clarke and Appo are old region B schools)) Region C 2 (Glenvar and Giles)
Finalists: Region A: 2 Region B: 5 Region C: 2 Region D: 0
Final 4 Schools: Region A: 2 Region B: 13 Region C: 2 Region D: 3

In 1A things look a lot different
Championships: Currently Region B: 2 (13 and 14) Region C: 1 (2012) Region D:1 (2011)
Finalists: Region A: 2 Region B: 3 Region C: 4 Region D: 1
Final 4 Schools: Region A: 6 Region B: 4 Region C: 6 Region D: 4

Do with it what you want, but I thought it was interesting.

Back in those days we still did the East vs. West for the championship game in all sports. Region A and B would produce one finalist and then the same for Region C and D. Those 2 finalist would play for the championship. Many region B teams moved on to that final spot for the East over the years.

gotta remember though that the entire Dogwood, and part of the James River and Shenandoah districts have taken their turns in the West though they were old Region B. Appomattox-West School, but Region B. Wilson Memorial last year and Gretna in 2011 same scenario. Though we did the West vs. East titles with Region A vs. Region B champ and same with C and D I just thought this was an interesting fact of the dominance of Region B in 2A. I never figured it would be like this, I thought it would be a lot more even til I put in the research. Where in a normal year of old regions you had Region B only getting 25% of Final Four Participants, just like everyone else, now you seem that at a 65% clip in the four year sample. That's wild, and heck in the first year of the East and West breakdowns, you had Region B put in all 4 schools (Wilson Memorial, Gretna, Goochland, Amelia)
