Could be an advantage, their best shooter on the foul line, game on the line and floor goes studio 54 crazy.
Im guessing it isn't a sanctioned floor by the NCAA, similar to the NBA. I'd be surprised if it ever is, but who knows....

I am guessing there would be rules in place to prevent it being used for an advantage than actual game play just like the do for playing music etc over the speaker system.
They say it’s got similar grip to a wood floor but I have to wonder how grippy it is when it gets wet.
Anyone know if the old awkward floor from years prior is now gone? Something about the new one they tried last year was too slick or something? Is it fixed? I loved the state of KY in the middle vs that hideous bank logo.
Yes..the floor they had last year for one game has been fixed and is back.
The expense of that has got to be insane. The floor doesn't belong to Rupp. It's being rented for a one time thing.
That usually directly coincides with where they fall on the Hot/crazy scale.

Eventually it will for a number of reasons but the primary being potential brand marketing space. Naming rights on steroids.
However, I did read several positives in relationship to actually influencing the game. No more dead spots; always a consistent bounce. The surface provides better grip for player's shoes and supposedly has better jumping impact absorption.
It started off all glitchy with like 10 frames a sec refresh rate, looks like they fixed it tho, pretty sweet.
I’m not so sure that it cost UK a lot. I think that it might be a promotional thing showcasing some of what the floor can do.
I imagine that eventually money will talk and it will be sanctioned for game use. I’m sure there will be restrictions on how it is used.

Not sure if the floor is sanctioned by NCAA. Typically the manufacturer are encouraged to ask the NCAA for approval before production . I think this floor was initially made for special events for NBA so doubt it was sanctioned by NCAA.
Some problems with floor that the manufacturer and operator of the floor will need to consider so it can be approved by NCAA is to maintain at all times the required lines or marking …that’s a must because of the rules of entering the court .. I think that can be programmed in the software but it will be interesting how fast the manufacturer will make the push to get the floor approved by NCAA.

There was an article about the floor a few weeks ago, then another that was before the NBA all star game. Main concerns where durability and maintenance. The uniformity of the panels fitting together and leaving no gaps. Then there was how bright to make the floor and that the controls would be locked during game play, so no unfair advantages could be had. It was all thing the manufacturer said they where working on and testing with both organizations. I think you will see this become more common in the next 2-4 years. Heck, the had prototype of this very similar tech for use on roads like 15 years ago.
