A lot of you will probably hate me for saying this but I'm boycotting the football game this weekend. Not for anything the football team did, but as a protest against interim President Greg Postel. I think a lot of us should consider doing this as well.

I sent an e-mail to the President's office today stating that I will not donate any money to UofL athletically or academically (not a lot but about $2,000 a year), attend any UofL sporting events or buy any UofL merchandise until interim President Greg Postel has been removed.

He was definitely in the right to fire Pitino, but he has made a horrible mistake firing Jurich. And if we're being honest, if his opinion is that it goes up back to the top then he should fire himself. This happened under Postel's watch, and if Jurich can't use the "I didn't know" defense then Postel should not be allowed to use that defense either. This all falls on Postel.

In his brief time as interim President I have been very unimpressed with Postel. He has not shown leadership nor the ability to become the full time President. And to be honest I have no faith in his ability to do a good talent search for our new AD and new men's basketball coach. I think most of us agree that Postel should have no say in who the new AD or men's basketball coach should be. Temporary AD and temporary men's basketball coach, fine, but not permanent.

It's hard for me to boycott my Alma Mater but sometimes you have to give tough love. That's how I look at this situation. Just like many of us boycotted football games until Kragthorpe was gone, I will not support the University of Louisville until Postel is gone and I encourage many of you to do the same. Send the message that Postel needs to go.

My tickets are paid for already. I'm going.

The FB team has the chance to shine some good light on UofL, although we know the TV talking heads will beat this to death during games.

We're worried about losing Petrino now, and boycotting won't help. Sellouts may not matter either, but we'll have to wait and see.

Pretty sure the checks have slowed down already, and will get slower. Their is some big money who are pretty PO'd right now.

Everybody has to do what they think is right, but if your son breaks a window, are you grounding your daughter?

Postal is getting the message. Whether he cares is another matter.

Boycotting is what they want. To further tear down what TJ has built. Too bad he and CRP handed these guys a sledgehammer on a silver platter

I wish I could go. Don't take for granted what you have. One day you might not have it and wish you did.

I like Postel. Academics are his priority, athletics are secondary as it should be.

You can have him, I think he's the worst president (interim or permanent) that UofL has had in a long time. He's not qualified to be president and doesn't have any of the skills necessary to get us through these tough times.

And you know what, I'm sick and tired of people like you arguing "academics are more important, athletics are secondary", how about this novel concept, academics and athletics are both EQUALLY important and should both be given the money and resources to succeed.

Let me ask you something, do you think it's coincidence that the quality of the UofL student body has gone up during the same time our athletics program took off? Before athletics were emphasized at UofL the university was a glorified community college. Pre-1990 UofL was a glorified community college and a commuter school. We were in the lowest tier when it comes to college rankings. My sister easily admitted that the quality of students I went to UofL with in the late 2000's was far superior academically than the quality of students she went to UofL with in the mid and late 90s.

Do you think its coincidence that student applications go up when football and basketball are performing well? Stats have shown that to happen. Do you think its coincidence that donations go up when athletics are performing well? And not just athletic donations but academic donations. I think it's safe to say that without athletics we wouldn't have the new Student Activities Center (we would still be in the old one that was more than showing its age) and we wouldn't have several of the newer academic and student housing buildings that we have now. Without athletics we would a lower quality student body, lower quality faculty and less money to spend on research and other academic aspects (new building construction, new professors, etc.)

Do you think our academic side would be getting the opportunity to collaborate with public ivys like UNC and UVA? Or that we would be getting the opportunity to be in the same conference and collaborate with the likes of Duke, Boston College, Miami and Georgia Tech? Newsflash CardVille, without athletics we would still be in the AAC collaborating with schools like Memphis, USF, East Carolina, Tulsa and Houston. Not to disparage those universities but they aren't anywhere near the same class as the schools we are associated with now and I like to believe that a rising tide rises all boats. Just from being associated with those universities our academic profile goes way up,

You want to see the academic side of UofL suffer? Deemphasize athletics and you'll see academic cuts like this university has never seen. Despite what you may think college is about a lot more than just attending class. It's about building lifelong networks of friends, it's about being away from home and your parents for the first time, it's about learning to critically think, it's about developing your own viewpoints and how you view the world. As an Alumni of the University of Louisville I am grateful for the classroom education and degree I received. But I can tell you right that I learned as much outside the classroom as I did inside the classroom. Deemphasizing athletics would take a lot of that learning away and would be an incredible harm to our student body.

So please get away from the whole "just focus on academics, athletics are secondary". Stop with this idea that one has to be emphasized over the other. Change your viewpoint and see that academics and athletics are EQUALLY important to the overall health, growth and vitality of our university.

I might wait until the next game. Getting rumblings that Jurich may not be done. Stone the President of UL athletics board (I believe) said in an interview yesterday that all Jurich was guilty of was loyalty. And that he’s far to much good to let him go for that. He said “Tom Jurich story at UL is far from over”

I know he’s on the board pretty sure he’s the president. Also, apparently a group of business men are pissed because of the impact UL has and what Jurich has done and that he’s was suspended. The student athletes were not happy either. Not sure he’s done.

I’m tired of hearing he should go because he was loyal to CRP. Crazy after all he’s done here. And how clean all the other programs are. We shall see.
