As we all know, recruiting rankings do not automatically convert to won-lost records. Despite their flaws, however, they provide at least an indicator of the overall talent level & potential of the Jimmy's and Joe's heading to various schools.

Looking at the Rival's 250 list of SEC commitments as it stands today, it is not surprising that Alabama leads the way with 8 of the top 100 and 14 of the 250 total. Georgia is not far behind, with 6 top 100 commits and 11 from the list of 250. Other distributions are shown below, with Kentucky in the lower echelon. While statistics like this do not doom us to a lower echelon finish, they are a sobering reminder of the challenges associated with "taking the next step" in this conference.

Whenever recruiting rankings come up, people need to realize that we don't play all of those schools. We don't play Alabama until 2023 as an example. You compare us to the East and Mississippi State.

Sorry, the stat lines ran together when it printed as a message. First # was for commits in top 100, second number for totals in the 250. The last four with one each are for the top 250. As for the East-West comparison, we are, at this point, in the same relative position either way (5th), so yeah it's uphill any way you cut it.

The coaching staff can make a big difference. I agree that I would prefer to get all 4 and 5 stars, but I realize that a kid coming out of high school, is not the same kid that he is going to be in 2 or 3 years. Some kids will grow, some will work harder, some will take to coaching, some will improve, and some will fall by the wayside. We see all of the above. What was Toth rated, star wise, and how many top teams were recruiting him out of high school? Jon Toth was a two star prospect out of Indianapolis, and now he is one of the best centers in college. His only other offers were basically MAC schools. No other Power 5 team offered him. He made the player he is today, with hard work, and that is more important then stars. Believing in yourself, and willing to prove others wrong, who don't believe in you, is so important in life. If someone tells you that you can't do something, just smile and prove them wrong.
