It's one of my favorite things about golf. It's a lot of money but at least you have to play well to get it

So, based on that payout chart, Rory made a crapload of money on the back 9 today.

I don't remember where he was, heading into today's round, but I'll bet he almost doubled his paycheck.

Think Scheffler has made about $9M in nine weeks or so, since first of February. That is just insane.
He has def completely changed his life this year. Have to wonder how he handles all of the success. All of these younger guys since Tiger and Phil seem to peter out once they get rich.

Watching Rory come up just a bit short yesterday made me think that the Career Slam in golf is one of the hardest lifetime achievements in sports, has really only been accomplished once in the last 50 years or so, by Tiger.

Consider that Els, Norman and McIIroy (as of now) never won the Masters, yet Larry Mize and Danny Willett did.

Consider that Lucas Glover, MIchael Campbell and Andy North (twice) won the US Open, but Phil Mickelson and Sam Snead never did, with over 125 career wins between them (Phil is still active but a long long shot to ever win the Open)

Consider that Wayne Grady, Rich Beem, YE Yang, Jeff Sluman, and Shaun Micheel won the PGA, but Tom Watson and Arnold Palmer never did.

Spieth and Rory still are young, with lots of career to go, but history says it is very, very difficult to pull off.

The crazy thing to think about is that Nicklaus and Woods have both won triple career grand slams. Nicklaus was the first to win a double and triple career grand slam and then Woods did it years later.

I think it safe to say that Jack and Tiger are in a class by themselves for a golf career.

I’ve always thought the number of runner up finishes in majors, by Nicklaus, is seriously undervalued by people ranking the greatest players.
I agree. When you look at what he won and then add to that the second place finishes, it's just crazy good. On top of that, he played during a time when there were several outstanding golfers. It's not like he played during a time when the competition was weak.

Even with 82 wins I doubt anyone would have Sam Snead at the top of GOAT.
It’s all encompassing. No one mentioned Sam Snead, btw. One can argue Jack and Tiger stats all day and have a reason for each as the goat.

I figured when you mentioned all time wins it was a reference to Tiger with another. My point stands.

Tiger is the GOAT. I don't think there is really any debate. NIcklaus didn't face near the competition that Tiger did. If Nicklaus was honest with himself, he'd agree.

The current crop of talent on tour is as talented as ever (as a whole) and Tiger made the cut while not having played a round of tournament golf in over a year with a patchwork body that is a shell of his former self. If anyone thought he would not be as dominate against this generation of talent if he was in his prime, well you would be wrong. Also, give Jack todays technology and he would dominate also. Both are in their own league but Jack is not doing anything like what Tiger has accomplished given all of the injuries and other issues Tiger has dealt with. There is no telling what Tigers resume would look like right now if he did not have all of the issues he has had the last 10+ years.

Each era stands on its own merit. There were 22 golfers who won (or would eventually win) multiple majors during the time that Jack won his 1st and 18th. Jack wasn't exactly facing the local muni weekend crew.

Lee Trevino, Tom Watson, Arnold Palmer, Johnny Miller, Raymond Floyd, Norman and Faldo in his later years, Jack had some all timers in the field when he played, just like Tiger does today.

I am the director of a sports school for an interesting sport called golf. This year, thanks to the personal achievements of the students of our school, four golfers received the title of Master of Sport. On this occasion, the staff, coaches, and I decided to make small gifts to our masters. We decided to give a complete professional golfer's kit.
Go on….
