There are the casual golf fans who don't understand the "rules" of respect, silence, etc....at every tournament. You will see less of them depending on the level of event. For example...the Barbasol here may as well be an open door of golf gallery ignorance. Were it not for a decent amount of rewards for the winner, I doubt you would see players come.
Really? Been going to the Barbasol since it came here and have never seen rude or ignorant behavior. Probably a little louder than they should be in corporate tents, but I am sure that is the same at every tournament.

Yeah, really. People will say they have never seen any of this behavior at any tournament, fwiw.

Been every year myself and never saw a thing out of line, and I followed the leaders on Sunday three of the four years. Followed James Hahn the last few holes on the Saturday he shot course record 60 with a putt on 18 to shoot 59, just loud cheers when he made birdie, but no different than any other tournament I have attended, and I have been to Masters, PGA several times, Memorial, etc.

If I was at the Masters it would be like I was in a library. I'd be overwhelmed and humbled by the greatness around me. I wouldn't be able to say a word let alone yell one. I'd want to watch the 2nd shots into 13 as to me that is the most exciting shot in all of golf. Going for the green in 2 on 13 at the Masters.

Can't wait. Spring has come early here in Georgia. The peak azalea blooms may be gone by tournament time.

The big change this year is the lengthening of the Par 5 thirteenth hole. The tee area formerly was close to the 12th green. Now it has been pushed back 35 yards in a longer chute. The hole is now 545 yds (previously 510 yds). This should prevent players cutting off the severe dogleg left. Many pros could previously hit driver and short iron to the par 5 green.

I've been distinctly unimpressed with how they rolled out LIV. Way too gimmicky and lacking in the kind of decorum that makes golf special. All the production touches is where they are blowing it. Like a team of marketers that had never played or watched golf in their life were trying to sell it to a "new generation" or some miserably dumb idea.

It can work but it is off on the wrong note IMO.

Fun facts I read about the Masters today.

1. Patrons aren't allowed to run at any time.

2. Augusta made players use caddies provided by the course until 1983.

3. Augusta has trademarked the term "green jacket" and only lets the champion take their jacket off-property for one year after winning. After that the jacket remains at the course permanently.

4. Patrons aren't allowed to have electronics.

5. Augusta actually allows patrons to save seats. When you get to the course in the morning, you can go park your folding chair at any hole and wander around for a few hours. When you get back the unwritten rule is that your seat will be right where you left it, even by the 18th green. The Masters chairs they sell at AGNC even have a slot on the back to put your business card to identify your seat.

That's an interesting idea. I wonder which players would rise and which would fall if caddies were only there to carry the clubs and it was all on the player?

The article I read implied that the course caddies actually helped a lot due to their local knowledge of the course.

The interesting thing is that after they allowed players to bring their own caddies, for years after the players who were playing the Masters for the first time did noticeably worse than pre-1983. I'd say someone who's seen the greens at Augusta for years would have a big advantage.

I was thinking more in terms of the overall sport. It would be much more... sporting... if it was all on the golfers and they couldn't rely on caddies except to simply carry their clubs.

^^^CBS will go over the top to not disparage one iota against LIV. It will be nauseating.

I disagree. Maybe just maybe The Masters has let it be known to CBS that this is how they want this covered. I doubt you even hear the term LiV or the PGA. It’s going to be about the players, all of them.

I think that's a good decision. The Masters is the most pristine sporting event in the world. You don't want to get down in the gutter and have the LIV distraction muddying up the coverage. I would be fine if they hardly mentioned it. Focus on the abject beauty of the course juxtaposed against the terrifying greens and unforgiving mistakes the course punishes like no other. No finer mental or physical test of man expressed in sport exists anywhere and it is on full Shakespearean display for one fleeting perfect Spring weekend. I can't wait.

LOL....it's not even #1 in the majors.
The eyes tell us. The knees tell us. The sweat on the brow and the trembling hands of lesser players tell us. The Masters is unique in all of sport, not just golf. No other contest of men more fully measures the content of the soul than does Augusta on one April weekend when the gods themselves descend to earth and spectate alongside mere mortals. It has always been that way and not some other.

I fall alongside Player and Jack, although I have the Masters 3rd and not 4th as they do.

We should get some players perspective of their list in the interviews. My favorite is the Masters without question...in terms of importance we can debate.

Augusta during the Masters is one of the most scenic courses on tour in my opinion.

I am so sick of hearing about PGA vs LIV. It is really turning me away from the sport. And honestly it is not a good look for the PGA players which is why I hope one of the LIV Golfers wins the Masters. In the eyes to too many people PGA/LIV is a bunch of privileged AHOLES in an individual sport where everything they do is about themselves. I have no issue with athletes wanting to make as much money as they can, but do it in a manner so it isn't throw in peoples faces.

In terms of pure golf, it could be argued that pros would want to win the US Open or the British Open the most, after all, they are truly open, has just about the toughest field (maybe the TPC is the toughest, IIRC), and it says you are the best golfer in the world at the moment. And they are almost always played on historic iconic courses.

OTOH, gun to their head, I bet 90% of pros would choose to win the Masters over any other, for one, I think the off course endorsement revenue would be the max for the Masters, and then if for no other reason that you get invited back every year of your life, to attend the Champions dinner, par 3, and play in the tournament until you are 65 or so.

As one pro put it in an interview I read a while back, "who in their right mind would even WANT to play a US Open course every year the rest of their life?" 🤣
