OM, they wouldn't normally make these amateurish mistakes like this but they absolutely hate Trump and discard normal protocol, not to mention common sense, if it means making him look bad. Just too many absolutely false stories in his first 30 days to conclude otherwise.
They don't realize they are playing right into his hands and actually helping him. Now all he has to do is cite this idiotic story (and the many others) as proof that the media lies to make him look bad. This tends to inoculate him when bad and true stories emerge. Americans will simply write it off as yet another false story.

I am completely convinced this is not incompetence. They wanted it to be true. They got the news out without even bothering to check. The damage was done. Corrections come later but the original news goes halfway around the world while the truth is still putting on its shoes.
But as I said, this actually benefits Trump because it gives him another media corruption talking point. He fights back as no GOP president has before so their old methods just don't work on Trump.
Even they won't defend this rampant incompetence. Pax is too kind to them blaming it simply on their hatred of Trump. He's right, but even haters at least take the time to make sure the object of their hatred is worth legitimately hating.
In this case these haters are too damn lazy and incompetent to even check the validity of their hateful reporting.

Another perfect illustration in my opinion of them "lying with the Truth".
There was a gala at Trump's hotel attended by a Foreign national. That was true.
But Trump arranging it and attending himself as part of a pay for play, was as much of a lie as Hillary's denying she ever was involved in the exact same thing(which btw the media virtually ignored).
Their lies also come in the form of what they refuse to tell you or admit to knowing.
True, they also wanted Hillary's predicted victory to be true and they pretty much did all they could to assure it except show the Russians how to rig it. But they still lie about that too and report to this day the Russians really did steal it from Hillary for Trump.
Even if they couldn't actually pull that one off over the American people. They keep trying though Pax.

Well the right media did parade a Swedish national out that was supposedly an expert on Swedish security only to find out that the Swedish Chef from the Muppets was just as qualified as this douchebag.
