Northwestern's fb players last year threatened unionization. College fb players get a free ride and now get about $5k in living expenses. Yet, they know how much money they bring in to their respective schools. A school like Alabama has hundreds of millions in reserve. I'm sure even WVU will begin making a nice multi-million dollar profit once our full share of Big 12 money kicks in. What is to stop these player from banding together and refusing to play (ie going on strike), until they get their piece of the pie? There wouldn't be a damn thing the NCAA, conferences or schools could do about it. Are they going to pull the scholarships of every player?

The power these guys have is tremendous. This Mizzou thing had been brewing for several weeks. When the FB team got involved, the Prez was forced out in 36 hours. Think about that. These players are going to start to see the power they have and they will wield it to their benefit.

Yes.

What they got away with is setting up a slippery, dangerous, slope.

That's when I'll stop watching...I have other things to do on Saturdays.

Agreed. This is where I was going with the "ramifications" of what happened in Mizzou.

In a strange way I was glad to see what the football players at Mizzou did, not for what they did per se but because what they did made it more plain what college football is, namely not student-athletes engaging in extracirricular activity but rather big time entertainment.

Purely in terms of the money they bring in college football players deserve way more than they get but OTOH using that same standard most college athletes get way less than they get. Treating them all the same doesn't make sense and yet treating them according to what they bring in would change things a lot from how it is now.

Agree to a certain extent, but, keep in mind, many of the players are "auditioning" to play on Sundays. They have motivation to play instead of boycott.
