The more time I spend here after the nebby win, the worse I feel.

The high of the win and the excitement over Terry Smith can’t be allowed.

Great win! Smith is getting the most out of these guys. Smith is all class and humble. Joe-409! The players love Smith. They want to play for him. Smith has done a great job.

Smith can’t be the guy. He’s merely beating teams he’s supposed to beat. It’s just nebby. The commits already left.

So much for feeling good about Penn State. I must be new around here.

Just enjoy the victory, wildman. The future is bleak. Winter is coming. Cheer up!

Some good news: It's basketball and WVB season. Does that help?

And that’s not really a good thing for people who don’t care about wrestling.
Do Penn State people care about basketball?
Based on the attendance numbers in my lifetime I would say, "no".
Find something to care about...
hibernation, snow shoveling, etc.

Now you have loonie posters saying Smith wore the 409 button as an insult to Franklin???
-----------------------------------------------------------e

As if Franklin were anti-JoePa (which is the diametric opposite of the truth - Franklin liked JoePa and stated that he was honored beyond words to follow in his footsteps in his initial PC after his PSU hiring.). Beyond that, Franklin hired Smith in 2013 and made him Associate Head Coach in 2016 - to believe that Terry Smith dislikes Franklin is clear evidence that you know nothing about Terry Smith, who is grateful and humble especially regarding all the people who have contributed to his successful coaching career (including both Joe Paterno and James Franklin}.

Way more people care about basketball than wrestling especially outside of PA and Iowa. And I would say most Penn State people would trade the wrestling success for success in basketball.

The "PSU fan" is trying to tell us how nobody in PA or anywhere else cares about PSU Wrestling winning 12 of the last 14 Wrestling National Championships because PSU has a middling basketball program.... These "PSU fans" have some real interesting views.......... LMAO
Sorry dude, very few people outside of PA and Iowa care about wrestling. It’s just not a popular sport whether Penn State is a dynasty or not. Nobody where I live even know Penn State is a dynasty.

Do those people where you live know Penn State has a basketball team? Where I live, about 25 miles from the BJC, practically no body knows.

They do because they actually watch college basketball.

I wish they would attend games and donate to the program to show that they care...
I would like the MBB team to be relevant, but it is not.
Even for as irrelevant as wrestling is to the rest of the world, the PSU wrestling team is more relevant than the MBB team.

If more schools cared about wrestling, PSU may not be as relevant.

Maybe...
if PSU wrestling closed shop tomorrow, people would care. If MBB did the same barely anyone would notice.
Nobody is arguing that, but if Penn State had a good basketball program and the wrestling program shut down, not many would care. People in Morgantown would care if their rifle team shut down because that’s their best sport, but nobody else would care. That’s my point.

...and my point is the best part of basketball season for a Penn State fan is watching the wrestling team.

In 2023, we played a 2nd round NCAA game at the same time as the Wrestling National Championship (while several other NCAA basketball games were happening at the same time). Wrestling brought in 628k viewers. The PSU-Texas game had 6.63 million viewers.

And yes, the rest of the world caring a TON about men's hoops and PSU fans caring little is one of our biggest hurdles.

Yes, I am not talking about the rest of the world...
number of PSU wrestling fans vs. number of PSU MBB fans.

wrestling > MBB

I am willing to guess of the 6.63M people watching did not care if PSU was on the court or if it St. Francis.

That hurdle is as consistent as the sun rising in the east. Sad to say.

I think there are more PSU wrestling fans than PSU basketball fans.
That’s because the basketball team is terrible…if they were good, there would be far less interest in wrestling…again, that’s my point.
