AD Mike McGee was friends with Holtz and recruited him to be the head coach. Holtz was friends with Spurrier and with Holtz' help McGee recruited and hired Spurrier.

This isn't a secret. It was common knowledge at the time. McGee was darned good AD.
Unless McGee (I also was impressed by his tenure) told them it was going to be easy I think my point kind of stands doesn't it?

Agree. Allow me to add on. Talent: There's lots of less glamorous programs than ours that manage to win more games than they lose with mediocre talent. Even at the FCS level. Okay, they don't play in the SEC but last night was not a SEC opponent. It seems like with a competent staff and mediocre talent, we should be able to win 7-8 games. Beating a dead horse: Get the right staff here, win with mediocre talent, consistently go bowling, pull off a few upsets, create a buzz, and better talent will follow. It starts with RT.

Man, for years the center of that wall was a memorial to the students that were murdered at the hands of a serial killer in the early 90’s. Unless they eventually painted over it already…that’s kind of messed up to paint over that.
It's a wall of graffiti that is painted over sometimes daily.

I mean, we were pretty bad. That App State game was an abysmal performance. Nevertheless, one thing that frustrated me with Muschamp is that he actually seemed to understand football. It was clear when he talked about the game. He just was a bad coach.

Not only is Beamer a bad coach, I also have less and less confidence that he actually understands football.
I couldn't stand Champ. Still can't. Both Champ and Beams are stubborn, arrogant and thin-skinned.

What I am about to post is not from a emotional perspective, but purely observational.

HC:
It would now be hard to imagine how anyone can not see the Beamer is clearly over his head. An alarming lack of imagination concerning game plan on both sides of the ball. It does not appear that the coordinators have a certain degree of autonomy concerning their game plans.

Talent Level:
This is a team with very little top talent. Watching the game yesterday I can't see any major programs wanting to poach any of players, certainly not to the exclusion of other players from other programs. Not that wont happen, but it would be isolated cases.

Overall:
With a visible lack of cohesion, and unless a major unexpected metamorphosis occurs immediately, it is hard to fathom this team winning any more than 4 games. Looking ahead at the schedule there is a good chance of some ugly losses at that.

Flame away.
I agree except on the talent. The d ends and several other players are talented it’s mostly scheme and coaching! Need some firings and fast

Right, but the center of it was the memorial. It wasn’t painted over daily for many years unless they did it recently. I’ve drive by that wall many times and I’ve never seen it without the memorial. But it has been a few years.

Yep and I’ll always sort of defend Muschamp for that. Yes Muschamp lost too much and it didnt work, however, when you get hired and your boss immediately tells you “You will not act like…yourself…while coaching here or else” then he was setup for failure already.
He didn't win at FL either.

18, thanks for bringing Brent Key's name to my attention. If we have to make a move on Beamer at the end of this season, Key would be a GREAT replacement. He is offensive-minded, runs a great offense, runs a balanced offense and produces a good defense. He checks a lot of boxes. In addition to winning at Tech as Head Coach, he has been an Offensive Coordinator and a Recruiting Coordinator. He has worked for Saban. But most importantly, he is producing as a Head Coach. He is fairly young at 46 and makes less than half that Beamer does. I still like Chadwell a lot. But Key also has a lot going for him, as well. But the question remains that IF we continue on the course that we saw last night, would the "powers that be" @USC pull the trigger at the end of this season? I don't know.
Would Brent Key leave his alma mater for South Carolina?

I'll add to that, if we continue on the trajectory we are expecting for this year, would Key even consider jumping to a mess as big as ours.
If this season turns out to be a bummer, we may need to look at a lower level FBS school for a proven Head Coach who is making about what Chadwell was making at Coastal a few years ago ($300,000/year). This whole mess could have been avoided if the hiring faction on our BOT had taken the time to study our history to see the background of the Head Coaches who had, at least, decent success here. But, they got bamboozled by former players who thought with their hearts, rather than their heads.

The South Carolina job isn't one that will be appealing to a coach who is successful at another P5 school. Holtz and Spurrier came out of retirement basically to massage their egos and show that they could still coach. Both saw their legacies badly tarnished at South Carolina. Don't think other successful coaches didn't see that and take it as a warning.

A G5 coach or P5 coordinator is the way to go.

I shudder to think what the portal will do to this team if we have another losing season.

A hope I have for Kentucky is that we held back against ODU so as not to show anything. BUT what bothers me is that the OL looked tired early in the game and could not block a Sun Belt defensive line that had multiple new starters. I was surprised that Beamer did not replace OL coach Teasley and S&C Coordinator Day. IF this season becomes Beamer's "Waterloo", it will be that misjudgment that bites Beamer in the rear.
