Dale Murphy was once again not selected for the hall of fame. I looked at the most recent list of guys who got in on this latest ballot, and honestly never heard of most of them. In your opinion, should Dale Murphy be in?

Back to back MVP. Only 13 players in history have done that
7 all star appearances
5 gold gloves
4 silver slugger awards

He hit 398 homeruns. I wonder if two more would have gotten him in. My all time favorite player and in my opinion, no one has represented themselves and the league with more class

He should definitely be in because not only did he win MVP in back to back seasons, he also won those 4 Silver Slugger Awards in consecutive seasons and he won those 5 Golden Gloves in consecutive seasons. I haven’t watched baseball since the 90’s but I imagine not too many players have won those awards in consecutive seasons. I was a huge Braves fan during the late 80’s through the 90’s.

Travesty guys. In addition, what ambassador and role model for the game now. Murph's the type who would never get the " big head" as well. Loved those Braves 80s teams. Remember when Murph and Bob Horner would hit back to back. Ernie Johnson Sr would invoke "what kind of poison do you want?" to opposing pitchers if they considered walking one intentionally to face the other! OFC

Were you watching the game when Horner had 4 at bats, 4 homeruns?? I remember the 4th at bat, I’m thinking, no WAY they will give him anything to hit!! Then, BOOM!

That is a great article on Murpjy. Read it last year.
I'm a Yankee fan who roots for the Mets if they aren't playing the Yanks. Murphy was the man. Those Golden Gloves combined with the Silver Sluggers while playing Center should be too much to ignore.

Bob Horner summed it up best when ask about Dale Murphey he said that Murphy is the best person I have ever known. That's powerful. OFC

Mattingly and Murphy were my two favorite players growing up. Funny they are both in the same boat. Let's hope the veterans committee gets them in there. I really feel for Mattingly though. Back gives out on him and robs him of a HOF career he was obviously on pace for. Then retires a year before the Yankees win a title. He played in the wrong era in NY.

Is there a time limit when they are no longer eligible for the veterans committee to pit them in?

Murphy and Mattingly just might be arguments for keeping the steroid cheaters out of the Hall. Add just a couple of homers a year to their stats and what do you have? Add just a couple of points to their batting averages. Add a couple of RBIs a year to their stats and what do you have? Add one or 2 more years to their careers. Pretty sure there would be absolutely no doubt for either of them.
