He threw 5 TD’s in a High School All American game, leaving evaluators asking if he was a Five-Star QB.

He once completed 20 of 21 passes in a game for Wisconsin.

He has thrown as many as 5 picks in a single game.

Frankly, it sounds like his confidence gets shaken during bad performances, rendering them horrible.

I found this YouTube film that seems pretty balanced.

Maybe a change of latitude does him good.

5 touchdowns in one game. Better than Al Bundy!

Perfect description of WL if you ask me. Just for once, I wish we could find a QB with arm talent AND the mental capacity to lead when times get difficult.

JMO. In my experience with players that struggle mentally to perform for whatever reason, pressure, fear of failure, things don't go their way, etc., once a headcase, always a headcase.

We don't need another headcase at QB, even if he has a rocket for an arm.

You have to wonder how much of his under performance is system and coaching. It's obvious he has the fundamental skills to play the position at a high level, maybe it just takes the right coach and the right system to bring it out of him?

Nah, he may be interested in UK therefore he's a bum.

I think that it's a dicey proposition . He had one really good game as a college QB and then a bunch of yuck. seems like we could do better.

Eh, a lot of that happened his freshman and sophomore years.
As a12 game starter this year, that's more important to me.
19 tds, 10 int.
Not Heisman numbers, but I expect that to improve in senior year with Coen and our weapons.
Thinking his floor is senior Mike Hartline
He doesn't have to win games. I expect he can get points that wins games with our defense.

Just a DYK...Mike Hartline is the last UK QB to throw for 3000+ yards in a season?

You guys have already way way over thought this and he's not even committed to UK yet.
Do you even follow UK football at all??

This was announced on the 8th. Wisconsin thinks he has committed to UK.

That's just based on one reporter out of Alabama. I haven't seen anything official from Kentucky or any news site that covers Kentucky.

It doesn't appear he's following anyone on our coaching staff either

I mean, his head coach was the former offensive coordinator and quarterbacks coach....and a very large part of his firing was inconsistent poor offense

If, if he comes here it is because Coen has signed off after watching film. He saw enough to tell Stoops "he has the tools we can work with to get our passing game going. And that opinion means more than ANY of ours.

He seems slightly above ordinary to me.
Hopefully, if he comes here, he has lots of untapped potential.

He’s just not that good. If he’s the starter next year there will be many ups and downs because he is talented, but he’s just not that good.

Total yards-wise, Wisconsin had about 200 more passing yards than rushing yards so they were about 50-50.

Well…….I hesitate to even say this but . The person that told me about Coen , the Vandy running back, and Mertz texted me that we have reached out to Devin Leary . Please temper expectations because he does not know the level of interest from Leary . Just that we made contact with him today.

I think there is going to be a ton of programs that reach out to Leary. The odds on that one are quite long IMO.

We have spent a lot of time talking about this guy(Mertz) with little concrete indication that he will be here.

Leary is way too injury prone. Allegedly Florida made biggest initial push to land him.

I've heard that we might take two QB transfers from the portal if we can get them, so perhaps that explains why we reached out to Leary? We'd be insane not to. He has by far the best numbers of anyone in the portal. He threw for over 3400 yards last year, had 35 touchdowns and only 5 interceptions. He also had a 65.7% completion rate. All of those are just insanely good numbers. We'd be crazy not to make an effort for a guy like that.

Torn pec on throwing side raises concerns but yes, a talented QB.

Is he eligible for the draft? Don't understand why he wouldn't go if he's eligible unless he thinks his injury might hurt his stock.

Mertz is visiting Florida this weekend so maybe he’s not a sure thing. Hopefully the Leary rumors of UKs interest are true.
