bands.
Just curious and I don't know the answer - what amount of money do other countries spend on education?bands.

Oh...I was thinking education for some reason...ok same question...would be interesting to know.NEA = National Endowment for the Arts.
Canada spent 8 times our budget last year, and plans to double it by 2021Oh...I was thinking education for some reason...ok same question...would be interesting to know.

Germany spends 40 times as much.
1/3rd of military budget ON BANDS.On the arts? Boom, first your facts are hugely in error. The NEA receives far less than 1/3 of our military budget. The other NEA is a union. And frankly, I don't care what other counties do, we have our own unique situation and responsibilitities. Canada has roughly 30 -40M people, less than the size of California. Not a comparison at all. They also don't have a debt load of $20T.

Education or the arts? Sorry maybe my follow-up wasn't clear.Canada spent 8 times our budget last year, and plans to double it by 2021

Why it's kinda of important to me is because some folks always tout how much we spend on military versus other countries...if that's the context of some arguments we need a little insight on to how they spend the rest of their money. On the arts? I donate to PBS, more since the History Channel is moving away from docs. But it's not the point. It's a small portion of the budget that ensures our government supports art. There is a correlation between art and the advancement of a society. Allow a very small amount of funding to inspire and encourage soulful growth. Maybe you're not sure what I referring to?Misread your first post and only focused on the headline. Again, the NEA is fully capable of soliciting donations. The military defines their needs and their bands play a part in their mission. The first responsibility of our government is to keep us safe. Thank God we had a great military or we'd be speaking German right now.
If the military believes the military bands are in accordance with that mission, it is their budget to manage.
Instead of whining about the NEA funding, donate. Ask you relatives to donate. Ask your friends. I am part of several charities that all serve abused and abandoned children, we get so little government funding that we would not exist without donations which make up about 80% - 90% of our revenues.
The context was: the entire NEA budget is not even half of what we spend of military bands. Our government believes in art, just as long as it's regulated by the armed forces. Why it's kinda of important to me is because some folks always tout how much we spend on military versus other countries...if that's the context of some arguments we need a little insight on to how they spend the rest of their money.

Would you want to defund the bands then I guess? What about the Tomb of the Unknown Soldiers outfit? The context was: the entire NEA budget is not even half of what we spend of military bands. Our government believes in art, just as long as it's regulated by the armed forces.

What a bunch of rubbish. Paranoia much?If you asking about military spending, it is fully available each year in their budget submission. But as I said, the first responsibility of government and our Commander in Chief is to keep us safe. The world is ablaze right now with struggles all over the world. We, for example, better make sure we can defend the homeland from a ballistic missile attack from North Korea. And we better make sure we can defend the homeland from a dirty bomb in NYC.
I'd like the funding to continueWould you want to defund the bands then I guess? What about the Tomb of the Unknown Soldiers outfit?

Hard to sing with your head in the sandWhat part was rubbish? I am trying to understand your thinking. North Korea is not a threat? That is news to Clinton, Bush, Obama and now Trump. It is news to Japan and South Korea. It is news to the world.
A dirty bomb in NYC is not a threat? That's news to the Intelligence agencies in particular the FBI.
But please keep you head in the sand and sing kumbayah.
You, at least, know how to disagree brother! When government has two meanings for one acronym, cut one or the other.
You have a special type of logic Paxx....so, I'm essientially choosing art over starving children and national safety? You didn't answer my question Boom. There are so very many worthwhile charities. Most rely in large part on donations. Why is the NEA more important than abused and abandoned children, for example? How does the government decide who gets what funding. You may think the NEA is more important and I may think the children are more important.
It is all about priorities and regardless of your or my preferences, the first duty of the President is to protect the homeland.
Hard to sing with your head in the sand
Why should we fund it just so Muppets can sell 30 million Elmos?bands.
I'm fine with the bands....I'm also fine with the very small budget for the NEA, I just against shutting it downWhat do you have against the military bands? Aren't they also considered "The Arts"? A little John Phillips Sousa by people who can also do some killin?
PBS has good shows for kids AND adults....since History has gone Pawn StarWhy should we fund it just so Muppets can sell 30 million Elmos?
My point was the kid's shows generate lots of money that should stay with the endowment. I like some of the adult programming like NOVA. Grew up on black & white Dr. Who. Not interested in British Soaps.PBS has good shows for kids AND adults....since History has gone Pawn Star
crazy it's where I go for docs

I say we bring back the "Better Dead than Red" propaganda. That would be a hoot to see the left's 180 if Trump started with that approach. How about political messages shouldn't be funded by government?
