I spoke with Bert shortly before he passed away and he told me he thought WildcatDon has also passed. As you know Don suffered from a very severe stroke several years ago. Another one Bert told me may have passed was Railroad Cat.

Over the years Bert and I developed a close friendship and I got to know his son and daughter as well as his wife. They are as good as goodness gets. Bert would discuss several of the old timers from the D League and the good times we all had. And of course we discussed our grandchildren too. :) His granddaughter recently graduated from UK and he was so proud and rightfully so.

Bert was a student of history and a cousin I have, who lives in Mississippi, wrote a book several years back and I told her to get in touch with Bert as he would be a big help in her research. She did and he was kind enough to not only contribute but provide some very old photographs she included in her book. She credited Bert and he was so proud he actually called me to thank me. I told him we thank HIM, he provided the valuable information. That was the type of man Bert was, the best of the best.

Good luck to the D-League and I enjoyed interacting with y'all for those many years. Now I will fade away.
Good to hear from you Sawnee. Used to love hearing about your fruit trees. I visited Bert a few years ago and he and his wife could not have been more accommodating. Just salt of the earth type folks. Sad that he is gone.

Matt Jones has a post up regarding this. What you guys want to talk about isn't going to happen on the site anymore because it devolves into immaturity and name-calling (see your post above and FireWentOut's). I've said countless times to act like adults but many can't. Moderation is a free job and over the years free boards across the internet have shut down because people don't want to spend their lives moderating constant arguments between strangers. Adapt to the new climate or move on I guess.
Congrats on retaining your job in the merger, Hall Monitor!

Good to hear from you. We may be back down in your general area at the end of February. We might even go a bit south and finally watch the mermaid show. Hope all is well.

Ballgame tomorrow. I'm kinda of excited to see if this 2nd half team will show up early tomorrow night.

Oh, the dermatologist's appointment was OK. 3 biopsies so TBD.

Bummed to hear about Swanee. He was always, and I mean always, a cool dude. The way he was treated in the pol thread is outright criminal and proved many a point that was made in that thread. Also nice to see that Monday Nitro has finally taken off his mask. Front Runner tried repeatedly to warn people. Looks like he was right again.

The D, is also known for prayers!!! My sister has surgery Thursday, so please pray for her! We thought it was going to be delayed because she needed a PET scan, but they didn't have any openings, GOD answered our prayers and an opening came open today, the scan revealed that the cancer has not spread, so her surgery is still on for Thursday! GOD IS GREAT!

This is how I will be watching the game tonight.

Morning D-Leaguers!

49° this morning with a high in the mid 50's expected for the day.

Hump Day! Well... at least for the workers bees. Glad to hear from some of the posters not seen for a while and welcome to those that are new to the D-League. This is the place for calm and respectable posting.

Prayers for those hurting right now and God Bless the D-League.

Good morning everyone.

Not much on tap today....out for lunch, go to the gym, a little shopping before the snow starts and then back home to get mentally prepared for the game tonight. Retired life is good.

BTW, Jelevic is starting tonight if you have not heard. Goodness, we need to figure out a starting lineup. It would be nice if he and Williams hit some 3's early.

I hope everyone has a great day!

Good morning folks. Overcast and cool -not cold -in DC. Rumbling into the city on the Red Line subway train.

Cats play tonight. I can’t lie, my interest in college basketball and particularly this team of limping millionaires is at the lowest point since 1965-1966 when dad took me to see Riley, Connelly, Dampier, Kron and the rest of Rupp’s Runts. Maybe this team will find some magic and bring me back to the joy I felt for so many years.

Struck me late last night that it was the 35th anniversary of when I arrived up with the Big Red One on the Saudi-Iraq border in preparation for writing about Desert Storm. I know Austin and Warrior were up that way. I asked to be with the division’s screening unit, so I spent many days up with the 1st Squadron, 4th Cavalry Regiment. The Quarter Cav. Interesting times.

Yes. D-League thread founded for wildcatdonf in late-2011 by @KaizerSosay . GYERO folks got Donfather banned for 1 day. Really upset him, so D-League founded as a direct response.
Yes, I was one of the Founding Fathers of the OG D-League.

But Uncle Jed deserves most of the credit. We had a running thread going on RR and he randomly decided to move it to the Paddock for some lame reason. The GYERO crew tried to ridicule it into oblivion including posting some horrible things about the donfather (RIP). His retaliation got him banned for a bit and to nobody’s surprise…none of the instigators from GYERO got banned at all.

Uncle Jed’s cosmic penance for his transgressions was being assigned as the sole moderator of the D (and later the NOB thread as well). The NOB crew basically adopted him as one of our own. In time, it became readily apparent that Uncle Jed is a pretty cool guy despite his horrible take on chili & his longtime status as a willing henchman for The Man. He remains in our Fantasy Football league to this day. In fact, I beat him like a red headed step mule in the championship game.

Thanks for the win, Uncle Jed!!!

Md, bringing up the Runts' names reminded of the time I saw Larry Conley play in HS for Ashland against Newport. My older cousin was a big HS & UK hoops fans and took me and another younger cousin to the game. He knew all about Conley's talents. Me, not so much. All I remember is the placed being packed, maybe held a thousand, maybe not, and that Ashland won handily even though Newport had a good team.
