Having different worldviews is one thing. When I think they are hurting people, of course I’m going to disagree. Politics make many of us get a little hot under the collar.
Take Trump for example. He burst onto the scene 9 years ago due to our government continuing to get out of touch with the people they’re paid to represent. The same applies to Fox News. I know you consider them unreliable, but is it possible they were only created because the other outlets weren’t being fair?
First part sounds reasonable. The level of condemnation you regularly direct at me and liberals in general leads me to believe you don't form your views of how we hurt people while in any kind of dialogue with us. Plenty of that from my side of the aisle, as well, and I know I'm not perfect.
2016 was a huge eye-opener for liberals about having lost touch with rank & file Americans. For most of us, including me, anyway. I have not underestimated him since. I think he's all kinds of awful as a human and a politician, but I respect his skills. I think he's a master manipulator and able to tap into how people feel without actually caring about them beyond their fealty. In that, he makes people feel seen. This week's results are pretty good evidence that we still haven't corrected that.
Fox News ranks pretty high on a purely factual basis, as do many left-leaning msm outlets. The bias is the problem. In the case of a lot of msm, I think that has been a gradual slide and a product of competition for viewers and sponsors leading to compromises. I also think it's pretty natural for honest journalism to lean left, as broader exposure (like that in urban areas) tends to do. And I think people are capable of maintaining integrity despite biases. The idea of writing someone off preemptively because of their their perceived biases without first assessing their integrity is problematic. I feel that at this point it's very safe for me to write-off Breitbart, The Daily Wire, and several others. I understand why y'all would write-off MSNBC, for example, and that list is shorter because it's harder to see our own biases. Nevertheless, I recognize msm has a credibility problem, some of which is their own doing, and some of which is not. I'm not going to attempt to assess proportions.
In the case of Fox News, I think they were compromised from their inception. Murdoch founded it with the intention of
countering the left, not striking a balance. They found a viewership and msm has become more extreme following their model. Shame on all of them, but I really don't think msm was as extreme as Murdoch thought when he created Fox News.
