We live in strange times. I remember when Republicans were well-educated, upper middle-class folks who pointed out things like how underpaid and underappreciated teachers were.
Agreed. Clearly they just let anyone teach now. Absolutely no standards. Even weirdo's with admitted fetishes for young girls in school outfits.
I was speaking moreso about the change in Republicans and their growing disdain for education over the past few years.
All of them. Just like in 2020, and 2019 and 2018 and so on.

My opinion of images in woman in collars and chains frankly outweighs that of any man. I'm disgusted by that image and I'll call out anyone who posts such crap and anyone who laughs at it. It's not personal anamous. It's right and wrong. Rationalizing it as just a Star Wars meme is BS. I will repeat again that any woman being depicted in a collar with a chain is not OK. An individual should be able to make a point without resorting to that kind of demeaning depiction of women. the
Finally, I have a suggestion for you as well. Stop posting things about women such as ponytails make a good handle it you don't want women to think you're just another man who view women as only sexual objects. Nobody forced you to make that comment.

I won't pretend to know how that picture makes you feel. I hope it isn't a reminder of a terrible personal experience of yours. I won't ask because this isn't the place or any of my business. But I have to say in the most respectful way I can that this is a case of choosing your battles. This is not a great battle to choose because there are 30,000 other memes or depictions that people will ask you to denounce that are far more offensive and tacky. I think it would be exhausting to take everything like this so serious. Again, I don’t know your personal experiences or the effect these images have on you. But this wasn't posted in bad faith towards women, though I disagree with the depiction, it was meant as political satire.
Now your points regarding thedude, there was nothing satire about those comments. And if thedude takes issue with it being Brought back up. I suggest that someone who has a very high IQ such as himself with all of the education money can buy, use some of that intelligence to decide not to make such revealing comments on the internet that never forgets.

shatter, that was not my intention about Michelle Obama. I would be equally outraged if it was her in that image. She's a fine woman and should never be degraded in such a manner. I actually would be a bit more disgusted because of the racial overtones that would also go along with it.
To be clear my issue is with the collar and the chain. I don't care if it's a meme, it's wrong. I think we'll just have to agree to disagree on this, but rest assured if someone posts another image with a woman in a collar and chain, I will call them out and tell them how disgusted I am by it.
As for the dude, I never called him a pervert. He really shouldn't be making comments about liking teenage girls with ponytails because ponytails make a good handle though. He really is inviting negative comments saying stuff like that.
I'm familiar with the 1619 project and it seems, at its core, to be about illustrating United States history from a perspective other than that of the white male. I'm sure you would agree there history is told through those eyes and there is nothing wrong with diversifying the perspective.
Next, I'll be honest. I didn't read the entire article but I made it as far as the Crispus Attucks part. I gave up after that fact check and simply skimmed the rest of it. My reasons for giving up:
1- The claim that labeling Attucks as Black may not be correct as he may have had Native American and possibly even white. Making this statement about someone living in a country that had the 1 percent rule is ridiculous. 100 percent Balck or 50 percent Black, he was damn sure viewed as a slave and lower than white men.
2- The free man statement saying it was incorrect to say he wasn't free because he had escaped his master and there were free Blacks in certain parts of the country. Is this serious?
3- May or may not have been the first person killed during the Revolutionary War? The author cited another child killed but not sure if it counts. OK, so it sounds like Attucks may have been either the first or second person killed during the revolutionary war. If you're going to fact check something you probably shouldn't use may or may not, which is the basis of the entire fact check.
4- The author took issue with the use of the term gave because it implies voluntarily dying for the cause. Whether Attucks voluntarily did so, which the author doesn't seem to be able to state, do you think the author would split the same hair if someone talked about all the Vietnam vets who "gave" their lives?
So, yeah, I think that was a lot of words that didn't really say a whole lot.
But for the record, do you feel there is something wrong with teaching kids that there is more to the history of Black Americans than slavery (the watered-down version taught in schools), George Washington Carver and Martin Luther King? How is expanding teaching more in-depth history about a people who helped to build this country liberal indoctrination?
The 1619 Project is fiction. It shouldn’t be taught in our schools. It’s pure trash.

It may seem irrational to all of you on here, but there are no words for me to express how deeply hurtful those kind of images are to me and so many survivors. My reaction is immediate and visceral. First, you can be offended by whatever you want. That’s your right.

I don’t think many people would, and I hang out with a lot of people who are pretty sensitive about the positions and roles and challenges of women, not to mention how they are depicted, both historical and currently. As both a historian and a teacher, I think the 1619 project is a great project. There are many essential stories of our nation, and the story of America and her slaves and their kin Is a fascinating, important, and intricate one. A ton of interesting history there, culminating in some ways with my favorite historical period of all... the American Civil War and Reconstruction.

He was also commander of the NATO Specops organization, and is the guy who oversaw many of our greatest battlefield wins, including getting Bin Laden, an event Trump seems to think never happened.
In their 1998 book, “A World Transformed,” George H.W. Bush and Brent Scowcroft recount the events that fundamentally changed the world during the Bush presidency. At the end of the last chapter Bush observes: “The importance of American engagement has never been higher. If the United States does not lead, there will be no leadership. . . If we fail to live up to our responsibilities, if we shirk the role that only we can assume, if we retreat from our obligation to the world in indifference, we will one day pay the highest price once again for our neglect and shortsightedness.”
For all the challenges the past 20 years brought on this country—for all the loss, the heartache, the hubris and the errant decisions—in times of crisis, the world still looked to America to lead. They believed that in spite of our political differences, our domestic turmoil, the ugliness of our democratic process and some bad decisions, America in the end would do the right thing. That we would stand up to tyranny, lift up the downtrodden, free the oppressed, and fight for the righteous.

This week I went to the polls in Texas. Truth be told, I am a pro-life, pro-Second Amendment, small-government, strong-defense and a national-anthem-standing conservative. But, I also believe that black lives matter, that the Dreamers deserve a path to citizenship, that diversity and inclusion are essential to our national success, that education is the great equalizer, that climate change is real and that the First Amendment is the cornerstone of our democracy. Most important, I believe that America must lead in the world with courage, conviction and a sense of honor and humility.
If we remain indifferent to our role in the world, if we retreat from our obligation to our citizens and our allies and if we fail to choose the right leader, then we will pay the highest price for our neglect and shortsightedness.

Why are so many recognizable, name Republicans opposed to Trump? They don't just quietly vote against him, they slam him interviews and write pieces calling on Americans to join them in voting against him.
I'm sure there were conservatives who didn't like the HW Bush or W Bush, but I just don't remember op-ed pieces from Regan and Ford officials and staffers speaking vehemently speaking out against them.
While I am not expecting it, I can't say I'd be totally surprised if George W endorses Biden sometime in the next two weeks.

Trump is not a likable person and he rattles the cages of people who have been leaching off of government money for decades. I am not going to pretend that Trump hasn't brought the disdain on himself. I am just saying that it isn't shocking that a non establishment guy who ***** on establishment politicians and bigwig military folks gets pushback. That's all I am saying. It's not moving the needle at all for the vast majority of the people who are going to vote for him. The battle between Trump and McRaven started over 3 years ago. So to post his endorsement of Biden as if McRaven is a lifelong conservative is not only not surprising anyone. But it's disingenuous.
