Teachers teach, but they answer to the parents not the other way around. And it’s ultra typical of you to label a vast swath of parents as being some sort of homophobic, trans phobic, racists etc etc etc. your utter distain for anyone who doesn’t have your warped world view must be a horrible human being and definitely not a parent that just wants to give their child a safe place to grow up and go to school.
Do you recognize the irony in critiquing someone for calling others prejudiced at the same time you're referring to their world view as "warped"?
Teachers do not and should not answer directly to parents. Not directly. There are procedures in place for parents to address concerns. Having a concern does not entitle them to the result they want. More often than not, if they're looking to get their own child out of a specific assignment or activity, that will be granted. That's as it should be, as stupid as their decision may be. More often than not, if they are trying to dictate what anyone's kid is allowed to learn at school -- like banning books or insisting on abstinence-only sex ed -- they won't get their way. That's also as it should be, regardless of how much merit their position has.
A safe place to go to school does not mean one without discomfort. Education is supposed to be challenging. Challenges are uncomfortable. That's how we learn and grow.
Quick example about false equivalencies: affirming Student A's identity is not shoving their identity in anyone else's face; telling Student B they can not spout off about how sinful Student A's "lifestyle" is is not oppressing Student B. Similarly, it's one thing to opt-out of something for your own kid; it's another thing to try to ban all kids from that something.
