If you live outside of NC, you may not know how bad it really is in the mountains. What we’ve seen is of Asheville, and it’s awful. They showed videos over the weekend of water up near the rooftop of a McDonald’s. Chimney Rock, a small tourist town near Asheville, is almost gone. Most of it is in Lake Lure. Boone, the home of Appalachian State, was hammered, There are lots of other areas up there that aren’t getting any coverage that are just as bad, maybe worse.
Interstate 40 near the Tennessee border has been severely destroyed. Bridges are gone. So many people are stuck. We don’t know how many may be dead.

It’s so bad up there that I’ve heard multiple reports of men driving to the mountains, and taking pack mules to get supplies to many of the people up there.
It's really bad. There is a picture of a guy who jumped over the center divider and literally put himself in front of oncoming traffic to stop them from driving off of I40 into the river. He saved so many lives.

Just a small example of how bad this is, this is a resident who lives at the top of a hill overlooking Chimney Rock. He has a few videos documenting the storm. Unbelievable stuff.

We have had some pretty impactful disasters and Florence was the biggest one of my experiences. We flooded and we were cut off of supplies. It was not a fun experience, me and my wife stayed with friends for almost 3 months, then we stayed in a government provided camper in our driveway for another 3+ months until our house was livable and it was still under construction after that. What they are going through in the mountains is 10× worse than what we went through and the majority of people there aren't going to have adequate insurance to cover their losses.

The best part about this is she says that anyone who is eligible for these crumbs can apply for their $750 online. She says this when people are stranded, haven't had contact with their family, need food and don't have internet.

Another tweet! Not peer reviewed. Stick to what's important, her words.

And anyone that votes for her is just as worthless as she is.

This is why North Carolina ranks so low on K-12 education. We have teachers spending time making fools of themselves on a college basketball message board when they should be focusing on furthering the education of their students.
I posted at 7:49am and 3:17pm yesterday. You don’t even know school hours, let alone understand what’s wrong with public schools. But keep voting Republican so it can get worse.

I am sure we can all agree that this administration's response to the hurricane has been abysmal. Or is there some whataboutism and explanations to be shared?
Nope. A thousand times nope. President Biden has sounded like a fool trying to talk about it, but the response has been immediate. FEMA is everywhere. I have two of my own kids and countless friends and former students who live in the mountains and they’ve seen help everywhere, from Asheville to Boone.

But go ahead and make it political.

This couldn't have happened at a worse time for the people in western NC. We have a dead lame duck President and a lame duck governor who is mostly known for vetoing bills North Carolinians support than he is for representing the people.
He vetoes terrible bills supported by a small percentage of NC residents who control the GA due to gerrymandering. And you have the ability to override every one of those vetoes so NC is entirely controlled by the GOP. You ought to be claiming victories for the response. It would be equally political, but positive for once.

Help is everywhere. But that doesn't mean it is because of the government. The government's response has been abysmal. Like I said, if you want to see how bad the response is, compare this to Katrina and then wonder why you would say this has been a good response when G.W. was criticized heavily for his response. Hopefully they get internet soon so they can apply for their $750. If they qualify.

Datt and Sdevada will fight tooth and nail defending the response by our government, and making excuses for "their" side. These two are as out of touch with reality as our government is. Who is the President right now, Cackles or Ol Joe? It's like asking who the tallest midget is, but Ol Sleepy could fly over the mountains of NC and he'd think it was the Amazon.

On Cackles, the dipshit said what she said in Georgia. This broad is useless. The money being offered to the residents of the mountains? You may as well just spit in their faces and call them uneducated, cousin kissing rejects. That's what you're saying by offering $750.

Instead, keep pumping money into Ukraine, or helping immigrants.

It's infuriating. My house just got washed away, can't find my family, can contact anyone, have nowhere to sleep, no job and someone shows up with a check for $750. Ha. What the hell am I going to do with that? Can't eat it, can't drink it. These people are nuts.

To defend our government, especially FEMA, is like praising the Fire Department for getting to a house fire a couple hours after it started. The "only" help the residents of the mountains of NC got for several days was by citizens. Also, how could we watch videos of this on Tik Tok last Friday, but it was several days later before the MSM aired it? This is 2024, you mean to tell me NO ONE from the media has Tik Tok?

I realize no one saw this happening in the mountains, but this is beyond ridiculous. Almost as ridiculous as our liberals posts on here. Stop saying idiotic things, and you won't be called an idiot.

I watched an interview with someone who just got connected yesterday because of starlink. They said that the only people who anyone has had contact with were citizens who were going door to door checking on people. But because FEMA is in Asheville, that means that the government's response has been spectacular. The people who were going door to door were carrying 5 gallon buckets of water so they could help people flush their toilets. You know the government ain't doing that. But they'll write you a check!

The idea is that it will help in the immediate to get food, diapers and formula now. Of course there is more coming later. Also, as far as needing to apply on-line,there is also a phone number to call. While this is not ideal, how would you and Mac have them apply? FEMA can’t just walk around handing iut momey to anyone. They need a proceed andrhere are places with power that people can go to. A lot of helping hands driving peoples to places to get power and recharge their phone.

How you can sit there, most likely with a stupid smug look on your face, and say things like "of course there is more coming later." You're dumber than you probably look if you think this is "just about the money." It's the fact that this stupid *** VP of ours even mentions an amount. A better response from the useless windbag? "THE RESIDENTS OF THE MOUNTAINS OF NC HAVE BEEN DEVASTATED BY THE HURRICANE, AND WE ARE IN THE PROCESS TO GET THEM A LITTLE FINANCIAL BREATHING ROOM, ALONG WITH MUCH NEEDED FOOD, WATER, AND OTHER SUPPLIES."

Have you ever been to the mountains of NC? This isn't the lush area you (and many of us) probably live in.

We send billions and billions of dollars to other countries and take care of illegal immigrants, but our government can’t even take care of our own. I think I read where FEMA doesn’t have enough in their budget to assist with another storm. $750 sure as hell won’t make a difference to these folks that have loss everything.

I live in Wilkesboro just below Boone. The whole northwestern part of NC looks like a war zone. Neighbors helping neighbors has been a wonderful thing to see. I had a guy that was able to help me get my 86 yr old MIL out of her home in Boone. We had to navigate around mudslides and down power lines and he even helped cut out two trees that had fallen on her truck. So yes, it pisses me off that our government is more concerned about other countries than our own citizens.

Speaking of internet, it was Trump who contacted Elon Musk to help get satellite access to people so they could contact their loved ones while Biden was still vacationing on the beach. Harris was in San Francisco doing a fundraiser. This was going on while I was helping my son who lives in Ashe County get water out of his basement.

Some volunteers from Carry are south of Chimney Rock. Say the same thing, just private citizens and local law enforcement. No national guard, no FEMA, no help from the air. But FEMA is EVERYWHERE. In Asheville.

If non locals want to help, it might be best if they contact Samaritans Purse, or one of the other organizations that are up there.

Biden was sitting on his *** on the beach? Are you a complete moron? He has been on top of this from before the hurricane hit and since then has been working the phones and coordinating with the governors to make sure they were getting what they needed. The Navy was in place and he just activated the Army. I actually had hoped that you and your little cabal would have sense enough to have recognized Trump’s lies about how Biden was handling the situation when the Republican governor in Georgia called him out. Should have known better. As far as the money that we are sending to the Ukraine, Biden has authorized millions to be spent on this rescue effort. As for the $750, your problem is that she put a number to it? Really? Don’t you think people should know right now what is coming rather than finding out like it is Xmas morning? You are really scraping the bottom f or something to complain a out. Two last points. Katrina was a disaster and Bush was rightly criticized for it. There was no advance planning at all so FEMA was not in place for days. It was so bad that the White House posted on its own web site that they realized they needed to do better going forward and went through the steps they would take in the future. And Mac, what the hell difference does Harris’s laugh make to whether or not she would be a good president. The answer: absolutely nothing you misogynist idiot.

The hardest part is not being there but there is really not a good way to get to them. Her and her husband have done a good job raising their own vegetables and canning them. We were hoping they could get to us but even if they could, I don't think they would leave. Want to be there to help.

Your brain is owned by your political heroes. I never said that criticism of Bush was unwarranted. The point is, as bad as the response was, it was far better than the response to this and yet idiot hacks like you don't think there should be any criticism of this garbage administration.

I am not Mac, but her God awful and awkward cackling is an indication of how she is not a serious person. It's not just her laugh, it's also the timing and the reason for her laughing.

Yet somehow the feds can put thousands of illegals in four and five star hotels in NYC. Like the Roosevelt. I didn’t hear too many stories of them starving on the streets without food and water in the meantime while going through a process. You same left wing lunatics who criticized Bush for Katrina for far less incompetence than this.

My daughter lives in the Mtns. No FEMA to be seen. So far, just neighbors helping neighbors. Money does nothing for them right now. No where to spend it or a way to get to it.
You clearly don’t have the sources Datt has “on the ground” because he assured us FEMA is everywhere. Your daughter must have blinked and missed them.

Biden couldn’t find his way out of a phone booth. He’s unfit to run for another term, but you think he’s making decisions on handling this situation. Do you really think that people knowing that $750 is on the way is going to lift their spirits and help them out? Damn that wouldn’t even cover what they lost from their refrigerator. No matter what happens, the old hag on here just won’t give an inch. I’ve never seen anyone as rigid as she is. Hate to say this, but I don’t think she gives a **** about what’s happened in NC either. So today Biden went for a photo op and they put a 30 mile no fly zone around him for four hours. Again, could you imagine the reaction if a republican held up rescue and recovery efforts for 4 hours in this situation? Then, when asked about what he saw, he didn't know which storm the reporter was talking about. Proceeds to say that the states have everything they need and are very happy. Very happy. @SDevada must be getting her news directly from the potato himself.

NO, no they're not homeboy. I have family and may friends that LIVE there. None have seen FEMA anywhere. My family that lives there works in a hospital, you'd think FEMA would at least be visible there. Their exact quote, "I will say this, i have seen no government presence, fema, soldiers etc. but we received several starlinks early on." So STFU with your partisan BS, you don't know.

The people I've talked to are in Hendersonville, Black Mountain (completely gone) and Blowing Rock. The response from our Federal government is derelict to say the least.

The evidence is overwhelming. It makes me want to bang their (@SDevada and @Dattier) heads together, and maybe knock a smidgen of common sense into their warped, unhinged minds. The problem with these two hacks is they're educated, which makes them the worst people to deal with. They think they are superior to others, when in reality, they are some of the most clueless, dense, individuals breathing oxygen.

EVERYBODY else sees what is happening after the catastrophic disaster in the mountains of NC for what it is. Which is gross incompetence by our "leaders." Biden and Harris have done an awful, awful job since they both were sworn in. Actually, they both should be serving life sentences in Federal Prisons somewhere. Along with a lot of other useless powerful people. A lot.

Trump needs to be our next President, and clean house. America is in such bad shape that he almost does need to be a dictator.
