It's over and it has been for a long time. Even Trump going sane now (which is unlikely anyway) isn't going to be enough. His debate performance isn't going to matter.
It's a national election. To win a national election you have to appeal to a broad cross section of people, especially as the country becomes more diverse. The GOP has hit 48% only once in the last six POTUS elections and Trump isn't going to do it either or even come close.
On the plus side for the Republicans I suspect this election is going to be their rock bottom in terms POTUS elections. Win or not in the future, after this election there's no place to go but up.
