I think Crittenden was the only one who pointed out the main reason this shouldn't be an issue. The actress said she was the butt of the joke, and that's not true. Michael is the butt of the joke. The point of the joke isn't that all Asians look alike, it's that Michael is ignorant and buffoonish.
A joke is/isn't offensive not because of the subject matter but because of what it's saying. Michael was always the butt of the joke. That's what made it funny.
