Not happening and I don’t blame him for it. You offer me life changing money to do something, as long as I did not misrepresent myself in any way, and I’m genuinely trying, give me my money.

Pope understands it all.

We don't know what is going on in that locker room

but if I were Pope. I do one thing for sure

New Uniforms that don't have Kentucky on the front and have their names on the back.
"
Entitlement leads to sorrow and depression. And gratitude leads to joy. And I will tell you this, you know all these players know, what all of the future players will learn really quick, okay, is that they are not doing those jerseys a favor by letting the jerseys clothe them. (Cheers). Our guys will know quickly, and it is hard not to know, it will be one of the great honors of their life to put that jersey on. (Cheers). There is only a select few players in the world that ever get to wear a Kentucky jersey, to wear a Kentucky jersey, it is one of the greatest honors guys can ever have as a basketball player."

Until a player shows they have earned the name on the front, it stays off. You'll get your NIL money, but you don't get to wear the Kentucky name until you play like a Kentucky player
You’re just giving whoever the next guy is more things to fix. You’d kill recruiting for years.

if the season ends like the last 5 games, he will resign - it will be his own decision and he'll apologize to BBN for letting it happen on his watch.

He loves the program that much.

But between now and then he is going to do everything he can to get this right. And I think UK owes him that.
Nobody owes him anything but his money.

If you google mark pope accomplishments, they are his top 2. Looked like a great candidate to me.

  • 2021 WCC Tournament: Led #2 seed BYU to the championship game, where they lost to #1 seed Gonzaga.
  • 2023 WCC Tournament: Won multiple games (Quarterfinals) as a #5 seed before losing to #1 seed Saint Mary's in the semifinals.
This definitely didn’t warrant the UK job but once again look who was doing the hiring…

Yes. Gray and black. Nike swoosh, number, and just for fun, the player's first name only. Let's go!

He needs to resign for his families sake. They don’t deserve this. He shouldn’t have taken the big job. These players can’t relate to him or his weird personality. In Utah, yes. Everywhere else…. negative.

I get what he's saying. Pope is quirky, without a doubt.
As rude as it sounds, most people think Mormons are weird, even compared to people of other religions. They’re basically treated like the Scientologists of Christianity.

Being candid here, but I’m pretty sure even the average Jewish folk or Muslims would be considered more relatable.

Not like I care, personally I’ll respect whatever religion you wish to worship, it’s none of my business.

Now you KNOW that isn't ever going to happen. No press member, depending on a paycheck, is going to upset a coach or player and risk getting blacklisted.
No one is going to ask stoops if he’s going to walk away after an embarrassing blowout loss? If someone in the press asked that to pope yesterday, it would have been a fair question.

This is silly. There's some problems absolutely, major ones in fact, but should Joe B have resigned after year 2? Look at those results.

Should hurley after years 2, 3, or 4?

Hurley and Joe B RIP don't have a damn thing to do with the state of Kentucky Basketball program right now. Get it through your thick skull, not every situation is the same. For every coach you want to list that turned it around after 2 years, there are dozens more who did not. Such as BCG for starters. This numbskull logic to result to red herrings to defend the lackluster results of Kentucky under Pope right now is absolutely ridiculous and you need to get real!!

Pope should not step down. He would be crazy to do that at this point. It’s his business, livelihood, his career. That’s just not the way it goes. He will hold out for his buyout just like any other coach and that’s what he should do from a business perspective.

recruiting is year to year. You're going to have 2, maybe 3 guys return Year over Year and you're buying the rest of the team on the open market.

They put a price on their loyalty. The only thing that kills recruiting is no money

You being a weirdo who enjoys humiliating people who don’t meet your arbitrary standards would result in players not coming here.

No one should give a **** if they care about the university. All that matters is winning.

I thought we were talking about the next guy? and there are not arbitrary standards if you are a net negative on a team losing by 35 points. If someone expects to get paid without earning their keep, do you want them here?

Kentucky being known for having backwards beliefs would effect the ability of the next guy to get people to come here until they prove otherwise.
nope, new coach, new era. You think anyone thinks Pope has anything connected with Cal?

regardless, there is no coddling the guys on this team. Pope needs to make a statement to them and the fans that he is the coach, and they will earn their place on the team. Worry about next year when it gets there.

I expect the person giving out the contract to know what they are doing. If you add a bunch of extra stipulations that no one else does, nobody is going to come here.

Dang I wonder if any of those coaches spent 22 million on their roster in year 2 like Pope did? LOL You Albert Einstein’s want to compare things now to how they were years ago…. yeah that really makes sense.

Why would he worry about making a statement that won’t matter in the short term if he isn’t going to be here in the long term?

you aren’t thinking things through.

Everyone just overlook that all these coaches that the Pope brigade keeps mentioning to compare him to in their second year didn’t have NIL or a transfer portal to help build rosters……like that doesn’t make a difference. That 22 million spent on this team doesn’t mean anything…..

no offense man but you are the one that isn't consistent. Either talk about Pope this year or what the program will be doing next year, but quit mixing the two.

funny, I don't remember saying that. Does that normally work for you on the internet? rephrasing something someone said into something absurd and then insulting them after implying they said it? Please tell me you went to Law school otherwise your talents are wasted

Well no that's dumb. It would have been 4 or 5 million back then. I don't know what butthole you crawled out of .
