We should probably just re-schedule Thanksgiving for this weekend on the South Side. Watching the Lions-Vikes? Cowboys-Chargers? Please. Might be the grandest day of football ever down there.

Man, I'm honored. My secret is that I use my fingers AND toes to count. I'm in the middle of breaking down film right now for precise projections but I'll be back before the night ends!

Last year LA won by 41. But that was the final game of the year. LA will be looking to stay healthy. Their target is LWE - so start loading up on those carbs. Go Ramblers!!!

MC 30 ESL 18
IF MC doesn't fumble the ball and IF they they don't take penalties they win this one. ESL has a history of taking lots of penalties. If ESL play 100% error free they will win even if MC does too. That remains to be seen.

LZ 24 SR 21
Maybe I'm wrong but how many weeks can SR win with the backup QB?

PC 28 STL 17
PC too big for STL but RB for STL breaks one late to keep it close.

PB
SI 24 MA 21
SI wins but I'm rooting for the underdog in this one
Whats the story with Mooseheart?

Below in bold is the Massey projection with homefield option and neutral site as needed (Mooseheart). Below the Massey in italics is the calpreps neutral site projection. Under that is the consensus line between the 2 services from the CCL teams point of view and if the game involves 2 CCL teams than the line is from the favorites' view. Without further ado (and without further fragmented sentences and/or run on sentences, I bring you The Quarterfinal edition of the Ignazio CCL pick'em brought to you by the fine people behind the BOWIE50 XXL PROTEIN SHAKE as presented by me, Soup for short, Rock-a-Fella Minestrone for long.

Good luck to all the teams. This should have been our South Side New Years Day Saturday. Shaking off a hangover at a 10am game, then head to a 130pm game to a 430pm game and finish with a 8pm night cap. But it's not to be. If you have a horse in the race or you don't, try to make it out to support these hard working future leaders before it's too late! I'll be back tomorrow with the breakdowns and winners. Right now, I'm digesting tape while downing my BOWIE50 XXL PROTEIN SHAKE (try the cake-flavored one) found at a reputable store near you! Buy your 4-year supply for the low price of $14,999 a year!!!

Marist +4.5 On the road, this line shouldn't be above a FG. LA provided as many answers last week as they gave us questions in round one. A major program signature win for Coach Dawczak and the RedHawks? I think LA pulls it out in this matchup of 8A Goliaths but 4 and the hook is too juicy to leave on the table. LA 23-22

MC +11.5 MC comes into this game rolling figuring out the ingredients for the offense and improving defensively. ESL brings the fans, the pride, the speed and the talent like few others in the state. The Flyers are getting healthy at the right time. MCs O can't give up any short fields. It's hard picking against Coach Lenti in November and I hope a surprise awaits but right now I have to say ESL 28-20

StL +8.5 Seems like I'm taking the points a lot but I don't think the algos have the quarterfinal factor correct. PC has the right size, O and D to move on but #28 likes that turf in Burbank and the Vikings passing game, while complimentary, can deliver when needed. PC 24-20.

MA +2.5 MA has the size upfront to neutralize a nasty Wolfpack defense but it won't be easy. If it were played at Marmion on the beat up natural stuff, I'd say advantage Iggy but MA's #12 on the field turf, I go advantage Cadets. MA 16-14

SR +10.5 Why stop taking the points now? The MASH (old tv show reference for the youngsters, google it) unit Mustangs have continued to answer the bell. Upcoming is their stiffest test yet, the #1 team in 7A, Coach Mertens' Lake Zurich Bears led by a fantastic LB in #7. Can the Mustangs execute enough of a balanced offensive attack to keep one of the state's best defenses from keying on the run? Can the Mustangs D, led by a pair of unheralded but excellent LBs in #31and #34 keep the game close while the O tries to figure out the LZ D? Who gets the big turnover? Who makes the big stop? Lake Zurich is very fortunate to have Coach Mertens. Once I figured out who it was, I was like that is the right coach for one of state's best programs at the right time. But, I've enjoyed watching this version of the Mustangs all year, great no-excuses, no-crap-after-the-whistle type football players, old 63rd street tough, so if they go down, I'm going down with them. SR 21-20.

I would buy down LA from 4.5 to 4 and take it. Not sure MC will win vs the heavy favorite Flyers but I think they can hang around. Since the QB change and Thomas/Nakos on D and Rogers back at LB have had a nice little run. MC usually a solid home dog ATS .MC +11.5

How neutral can Mooseheart be in the Loyola/Marist game given that their nickname is the Red Ramblers?
There are two sites that I know of that predict HS football scores. One is calpreps and that will only predict the game as if it was being played at a stadium-agnostic neutral site. The Massey prediction has a home team option which usually changes the prediction by 3 points in the home teams' favor. 2 weeks ago, Leo played at a neutral site (Cronin Field at Doyle Stadium) vs St. Joes. This week MA is playing Iggy at Mooseheart so it's the only game this week where I did not use the Massy home option.

But now that you mention it, Mooseheart might be the right place for LA v Marist to play if they were to play at a neutral site. Take the Red from RedHawks and the Ramblers from, well, Ramblers and not only would the site be neutral but the logos and signage would be neutralish sort of too. Once again, Ramblin' your genius may have stumbled upon something here.

I was going to just give the thumbs up but I actually laughed out loud not just lol'd. I actually took an elbow in the ribs from the wife for that laugh.

Definitely less opinionated volunteer offensive and defensive coordinators in the stands. And less questions about little Johnny's playing time:D

To increase the energy in the stands on the Mount Carmel side the Caravan will be bringing in 100 fans from Dunbar High School.

Mount Carmel 21 East St. Louis 14
If you are basing that on events from yesterday...clever! Otherwise its a good lead -in to a recruiting vs. Phillips joke.

Wasn’t that a Lou Holtz quip? “The 2 best places to coach are an orphanage and a penitentiary. No parents at one and no alumni at the other.”

Just completed my preparations, watching hours of scouting video on each team. This much I am sure of: if you watch any Hudl video with the sound on, you will have no hope for the future of this country.
Special thanks to Rock-a-Billy for setting the lines.

Prep Bowl Quarterfinals:
St. Ignatius High School 24 Marmion Military Academy 18. Cadets have lost their toughest player (and perhaps the best returning wrestler who hasn't transferred to Montini in the off season). Word is they are USCWOAP if he's not in the backfield. Also, Wolves (-2.5) play good defense.

Burbank Bowl:
Celts 35 Vikes 28. All depends on whether Clinton shows up. Vikes (+8.5) are certainly capable of winning and restoring November football to that corner of town. Cold and blustery favors the ground game.

He Hate Me Gately:
MC 21 ESL 20. Initially I was convinced the Flyers (-11.5) would take this easily. But word came out that our southern neighbors had a real issue on the game logistics. Were they hoping for a neutral site? Out-of-state refs? The right to wear their sacred orange jerseys?

Cronin & Doyle:
LZ 24 SR 20. Hate to pick against the 'Stangs (+10.5), but they're punching above their weight now. The Bears made some changes in the off-season. Also, they throw the ball now. Shouldn't be a problem, it's never windy at that field.

At the Redskins Sacred Burial Ground:
LA 42 Marist 41. For ever I've picked low scores for Titanic matchups when the Ramblers play. I'm abandoning that. I've got the hunch nobody will be interested in playing defense come Saturday night and it'll be a last-score-wins type of brawl. We'll see two quarterbacks for both teams, a dozen wide-outs, several backs, sophomores no one scouted. Perhaps an overtime. Ramblers (-4.5) will be hard stretched to cover.

Also: Winners buy for losers at Reilly's Daughter, McNally's and Horse Thief. Don't be cheap.

You actually watched scouting videos? When I say I'm watching film or tape, I'm watching either the 'Friends' or 'ALF' box sets. That Chandler is a funny guy. And that furry alien and the hijinks that ensues, man, puts me in stitches. Then I make my picks.

Mental note: I'll have to remember the bonus progressio pravorum law

Its the inverse relationship between quality of a school's wrestling program and the performance of said school's football program in the prep bowl playoffs. You have won this round @ignazio . I will gladly trade you winning the Iggy pick with you being wrong on the 'Stangs pick.

I didn't give you enough credit for the line you used regarding the comments and the energy of the comments you catch on the Hudl videos. When the people that run the world get down and think their grip is slipping, they just pop on a Hudl videoclip and say, "Nah, we're alright." Nice work as always.
