I'll just copy and paste from gyero:

Just got back from watching The Revenant. Barf.

Two parts cinematography circle-jerk, one part cliched native American dream sequence. I felt like I was trapped in a Bob Ross painting for 3 hours. I love Leo, but this aint his Oscar. What a pretentious piece of crap film. Shoulda gone to Hateful 8.

Leo has been in Inception, Django unchanined, the great gadsby, and wolf of wall street after shutter island, which was worse then all of those movies after it. You're takes are always awful.

Bingo. Horribly overrated movies with little to no replay value. Not in same park as Shutter Island.

He won't win the Oscar as long as people are tuning in to see if he wins an Oscar. Once there is someone to take his place as the "when is he going to win" guy, then he will be allowed to win.

I really want to watch it but I saw it's the same director as Babel and Birdman. I hated both of those movies. I still don't get why Birdman was so loved by the Academy.

Agreed. I thought Birdman was average at best. DiCaprio is a beast though, thinking he alone would make The Revenant worth seeing.

I don't know why the academy loved it but it was a technical feat. If you have never shot of film as an actor, director, cinematographer, heck even a as a grip, you wouldn't understand how impressive Birdman was.

Who is going to beat him this year? No way the academy gives back to back oscars to someone as young as Eddie. Fassbender had a decent shot but he has no hype going in and did not to kiss the ring like they expect. Depp? Cranston? Damon? It's a weak field.

Yeah Birdman was pretty good, just for the tehnical aspects. Long continuous shots. I think that's why a lot of film fans are excited and raving about The Revenant.

I'm going to see either that or the Hateful 8 this weekend. Can't wait. I am inclined to see Hateful 8 though first.

Tom Hardy is a name that's hotter than Leo, and the word I got was he kicked Leo's *** in this overhyped movie. Idk, I didn't know tom was even in it. I assume he wasn't in it much judging by the trailer.

Tommy is right, Leo has no chance as long as he/his people continues this silly GIVE ME OSCAR DAMMMIT!!!!

^^ Is the quality for those downloads even remotely good? I've always just figured they are average quality but have never tried, for something like the revenant I would want to whole HD thing because I think the visuals are a big selling point of it.

It is a weak field this year and i expect Will Smith to be in there as well come Oscar time. Definitely worthy of a nomination. Redmayne was fantastic in The Danish Girl and would be deserving if they wanted the back to back, but i just think it's Leo's year.

I don't think Smth gets in. Cranston, Leo, Fass, and Redmayne are almost locked in. That last spot appears to be down to Damon, Depp, Smith, and to a lesser extent Caine. I think it goes to Damon. Smith didn't get a sag or bafta nomination which almost eliminates him from the discussion.

Well... Don't rush to H8... It was Reservoir Dogs done up Western style sort of only a lot more campy and cheap theater... Maybe a cross between Django and Reservoir Dogs... Tarantino sure has fell in love with the "N" word, but since he's a Director of film that makes it okay????... Would like to hear a black man's perspective on this.... I sure as hell don't get it... But did like there way it was filmed.

But wouldn't he be up for best supporting actor and therefore not in competition with Leo?

In fact, he'd be perfect for the Anderson Cooper bio flick I'm writing.

Working title is "Power of the Power Gay" <copyright KK>

Superb. Sure-fire multi Oscar winner. Love the "Saving Private Ryan" type fighting sequences that are far and away better than any Western ever filmed. I say Best Director, Best Actor, Best Supporting Actor, Best Director, and Best Cinematography with a great chance at Best Picture. It will win a minimum of 3 of those.

I thought it was like No Country For Old Men...

Without the great story and captivating characters.

Wanted to love it, but it was 2+ hours of a Colorado tourism video mixed in with a dull revenge story that beats its dumb message over and over again into your head. I never got sold on Hardy's motivations, all the wife dream sequences were artsy wastes of time that didn't connect you with the characters any better, and between the squirrel story and the "Say the Lord's Prayer!" part I almost cracked up laughing in the theater at just how contrived it all was.

One of the most disappointing movie experiences I've had.

Leo is totally winning and I'm glad. It's a weak year. He's lost out on some great performances because of the competition in his nominated years.

The Aviator (He probably wins if not for Foxx' Ray Charles performance)

Blood Diamond
Wolf of Wall Street (Lost to MM)
What's Eating Gilbert Grape (fantastic performance)

I've also loved his stuff in Catch Me If You Can, The Departed, Inception and more.

I'd definitey like for Dicaprio and Pitt to win Oscars since guys like Adrian Brody and Jamie Foxx have one.

The movie is excellent. Dicaprio deserves every award he gets for this and is one of the best actors of our generation. Hardy should be nominated for supporting as well, but oh well. It's definitely a top 3 movie of the year.

The Wolf of Wall Street performance was such a stacked year. Maybe the best year for best actor nominees. I loved all of those performances.

You also thought Zorro was the top film of the year.
