I can't handle all this winning.
I'm guessing the millions of American manufacturing workers in industries that just saw their raw materials skyrocket don't see this as winning. Nor will the farmers that get caught up in retaliatory tariffs. Nor the American consumer that will now have to pay more for products. MAGA!!

American consumers will be the ones paying for this. Great plan.

Prob the worker more than the consumer. Just move all manufacturing out of country and ship in finished goods. Tariff is only on raw materials. For now.

Don't even need to go that far back or that extreme...both the Bush and Satan (Obama) admins tried tariffs on steel. They don't work and negatively impact American manufacturing.

But because Biff doesn't know or care what previous presidents did about anything, it will obviously work this time because....well just because.

The past 24 hours has been the Trump I didn't vote for. I hope it's a massive brain fart from stress.

Hopefully you know that the free trade has never been fair. Beginning was "dumped" steel. Vehicles were totally out of balance initially. Lot of history to auto industry. Unions in both industries put a little strain on the Am Auto Indus. Ditto steel.
But, there has never been an fairness in the trade with developing nations. Big Brother effect to help others get ahead so we could sell our products to those who could afford it. When they got to point of being able to afford US goods, they began trading within the developing countries. US administrations turned absolute chickenshit and would not force fair pricing.

Lol, yeah buddy, Wall Street is on his side too! How many people work in the steel industry compared to how many people work in Industries that use steel as a raw material?

Trump thinks that he's found a couple more industries that he can bring back while coal continues to wait. He vowed 30+ years ago that if he were prez he'd fix things but by the time he actually made it, the world has changed and his "remedy" is wrongheaded. If Trump would look forward instead of backward he would do us all a favor.

Odd responses in this thread considering the number of people who criticized Trump when Hillary trotted out his use of Chinese steel. Cunty and Bama were apoplectic over it.

Assuming US Steel is what is used in lieu of the Chinese Tariffed steel, wouldn’t that mean US Coal would be used to make it?

We already use US Steel. This just lets them jack the prices up. I think our #1 steel importer is Canada, btw.

Top US Import Sources of Steel, Aluminum
https://www.voanews.com/a/top-us-import-sources-steel-aluminum/4277212.html

President Donald Trump announced Thursday the United States will impose steep tariffs on steel and aluminum imports.

Trump talks often about wanting to go after China, but the proposed tariff or quota would harm Canada and Europe, too.

The top five exporters of steel to the United States are:

1. Canada
2. Brazil
3. South Korea
4. Mexico
5. Russia

China ranks 11th among the countries that export steel to the U.S.

The top four exporters of aluminum to the U.S. are:

1. Canada
2. Russia
3. United Arab Emirates
4. China

I know we already use it. However, adding a tariff to Chinese steel will increase the price on it to presumably make it more expensive than US Steel which would theoretically drive the demand for US Steel up, right?

Prices were already going up. Around the beginning of the year all my suppliers told me to expect double digit percentage increases. What this will do, I'll wait and see.

Not really hard to understand in most circles. Hopefully we are looking at those countries that practice unfairly to tax. No need to tax all countries including those that have fair trade with us. We do not need a trade war. We need to look at the countries that are restricting the number of US cars allowed into their country. Canada is a different country and needs to be reassessed. The countries that have universal health insurance would have to have allowance for US Steel who would buy on open market coverage for union contract. A lot of costs for US Steel are not required for foreign competitors. Put us on fair footing to compete.

Hillary only matters to you goons, economics is economics, I see the GOP is all on board with this as is the Wall Street Journal. Probably should wait to see if he can even come up with something that actually does this. Push back is going to be huge. Gotta wonder, with the economy already humming along why **** with it with these tariffs?

That’s a good point. Not sure why you kick the hornets nest with GDP forecasts being +5% for Q1 and a healthy stock market. I honestly don’t enough to make a decision either way on this one.

The only thing I don't like is the targeting of tariffs. Blanket tariffs on all imports removes the incentives for cronyism as well as protecting/creating more American jobs.
