guy on the video makes some legit points, but when he starts out by saying that modern music is just so intellectually and verbally inferior, then I would say:

"She loves you, yeah, yeah, yeah . . . . "

and

Aye! Oh! Lets Go! Aye! Oh! Lets Go! (etc.)

(two songs from very different bands that are >>>>>> than any BS that Pink Floyd and their ilk pretentiously flogged)

"Popular" music is pretty hard to listen to...but great music is out there. Currently have a mix of Kristin Diable, Brothers Landreth, Kongos, Nathaniel Rateilff & the Nightsweats, St. Lucia, Union of Sinners and Saints, ZZ Ward and Catfish and the Bottlemen.

Great mix of music and all...at least to me...fairly new stuff.

Ah, man, you forgot St. Paul and the Broken Bones. Lilly-white yuppies who play modern Stax soul. Damn good band. Nathaniel Rateliff is also very good. It just takes effort to find new music to like. Unfortunately, what's good is almost never what's popular. Not sure what conclusion to draw from that but seems like it's been that way in entertainment for a long time.

People always complain about music sucking. Movies sucking. Everything sucks. Never like the good old days.

All genres of music have some great artists and great songs. All genres of music have some bad music and bad artists. Always been that way. Always will be that way.

Reminds me of when people complain about today's country music (which I don't particularly like), and how it sucks compared to great traditional country music like Waylon & Willie. Yet, when Waylon & Willie and the whole "outlaw country" music started, traditional country music fans lost their minds because it "sucked" and wasn't traditional country.

Looked up that St Paul and the Broken Bones on Spotify.

It's decent. The neo-soul genre is kinda eh to me.

They are playing at the Iroquois Ampitheatre on 9/10 in Louisville

There is good music out there, you just need to know where to find. Hint: It is not found on commercial radio..

I think bro country is the worst thing to ever happen to ears. Nothing is worse than a guy who couldn't make it in rock so pretends to be country by wearing skinny jeans, a ball cap and faking a twang.
This points squarely at Florida/ga line. I'd like to submit Luke Bryan as awful as well.

very little good music now; haven't these execs ever wondered why the "old" bands like Boston, Styx, Reo, et al are so popular?
Hence the subjective part because I think 95% of the songs for those bands you mentioned are TERRIBLE.

I wish that as a society people would just acknowledge that pop music is for 13-21 year old girls/women and young kids. If you are a grown-up and still listening to Katy Perry you are just like an adult reading Dr. Suess. If you listen to it with your kids as a way to bond with them that's cool. If you are in the car alone and open up Spotify to pull up a Taylor Swift song you might be retarded. No shame, just a little introspective information.

The gray area is what you listen to when you are drunk. If you listen to stripper pole music or bro country when drinking you are just acknowledging the effed up nature of being drunk -and maybe trying to pick up a younger chick (hopefully not a minor) so that's fine.

But that's what Pop music is supposed to be. It's transparently catchy, glib, and upbeat. Sometimes it works, as in the case of Michael Jackson. Most often it doesn't.

Nashville is just as formulaic, except now with image becoming more important, it's being filtered through the same prism as pop music today. At least during Countrypolitan they still wore Nudie suits.

If you're looking for songs about the human condition, pop music probably not the way to go.

If you're wanting to bang your head, I've got a whole stack of George Jones music albums next to the hi-fi.
