Not aiming to make this about a particular political affiliation, but move it to political thread if need be.

It wasn't designed to save poor people money. It was designed so that boomers with high net worth and high standard or living but low taxable income could skip healthcare costs.

HELL YES YOU SAID IT BROTHER MY PREMIUMS HAVE QUADRUPLED SINCE OBAMACARE SO THE AFFORDABLE CARE ACT AIN'T SO AFFORDABLE AFTER ALL

oh, and uh, Muslims

It's pretty damned affordable for rich boomers that hide all of their cash in tax sheltered accounts. And hey. You don't ever have to draw any down if the gubmint is gonna pay all your bills.

Colonoscopy bill show up? Remicade not covered?
No. I'm on bogleheads listening to the retirees brag about me covering their healthcare costs.

The medical bills weren't that bad until my GI sent me out of network for the prometheus test that I got an EOB for $2400 for.

Did you follow my advice on the Prometheus test?

My monthly insurance premium is going up 45% next month. No change in plan. Pisses me off that I have to pay the same (family rate) as someone with 5 kids, even though it's just me and my wife.

I'm paying $179 per two weeks with a wife and 3 kids.

They have totally tightened up on what they cover like a damn circumcision, but I get it I guess.

It wasn't designed to save poor people money. .
How can you save the poor anything? They don't have anything to save.

And now more of the poorest get at least some coverage on Medicaid. Net, they did better than most.

But yes, a shi!!y system.

It is designed to fail. We will have single payer program in the near future.
Anyone who has even done simple math on this and understands what has to happen to provider reimbursement in a single payer pretty much dismisses this notion. The ACA is not viable, but I truly don't believe that it was the straw man for a single payer system. It is just horrible policy based on wealth transfers that won't work for the simple reasons that transfers really never work. No conspiracy needed.

It is pretty bad that my company continues to have to push back our renewal date in hopes to push back us going to the ACA. Our rates "only" went up 4% this year, but my family plan is $1280 a month. That is a mortgage payment for some.

I can't agree with that take and I am no fan of Obamacare. The expansion of Medicaid under the ACA certainly benefited the poor and cost them nothing. The people who were hurt under the ACA were the healthy and young (those who have the least claims). They had to start paying more to cover the sick. So the poor got something for nothing, the lower middle class got subsidies to help cover the higher cost and everybody else got stuck with the huge cost which was grossly and probably intentionally underestimated.

Finally, do you really think that the Redistributor in Chief went out of his way to benefit wealthy boomers. A fair portion of boomers are already age 65 and are covered under Medicare anyway (so they don't participate in the regular insurance market).

Lol.... I am 68. My grandmother lived to 100. My father and grandfather both lived into their 90's. So, you're going to be paying for me for probably another 20 years.

Knowing that that pisses you off will probably add another 10 years. Lol again.

Tell that to the Vermont socialists.
Nowhere in my post did I say that single payer would be successful. The ACA was designed to fail. Does anyone think we can or will go back to the system we had before? Sadly our next president is going to be Hillary Clinton and she is a Democratic Socialist just like the current president.

My thoughts about healthcare in general:

The entire industry is perfectly designed for everyone with any skin in the game to INCREASE costs. Insurance companies, government entitites, providers, pharmaceutical companies, medical equipment manufacturers, etc, etc. It's the only good or service we have or ever will consume/use where we have no idea of the actual price tag, and no reasonable ability to negotiate or encourage competition. Extremely bizarre.

The ACA really didn't fix any of ^^ those issues. There are plenty of good components of the program, but it created more issues than it solved.

Also --> just because your premiums went up/your plan sucks/your recent ER visit wasn't covered/your surgery was denied.....the ACA isn't the culprit of EVERYTHING. Not defending the stupid legislation, but you can't blame every single issue on Obamacare.

The President set our expectations that the ACA would resolve those problems.

Awesome. I love that boomers are indignant about their continued raping of our society. Bravo, man. Bravo.

I'll bet you sleep well at night bending your descendants over.

That is pretty close to the amount people in my wife's company pay for family coverage now. Before the ACA (Obama Care) they were paying around $600.00 a month for family coverage.
