We've seen Cheap Trick a couple of times and they still put on a great show. My first "big" concert was the Stones in 1964.
Let me be clear. I am not disparaging the old school bands. They still put on great shows. But there is great newer music that gets ignored by older rock fans because of lack of exposure and closed minds.

True. If you raise your kids on clash pistols and DK they keep you up to date on modern Indy acts
lessons learned too. When we heard a Def Leppard song I always asked “how many arms does the drummer have?”
they’d say ONE and I would tell them “don’t drink and drive”

Yeah, I think it was their first time back at the location since Woodstock, but other than Roger saying something about playing there a few times on solo tours and telling Pete they should play there, they didn’t really say anything about the site.

I agree, it’s a great venue. I like the museum too.
I have tickets to see Neil Young at Bethel Woods in August. How much time should I allocate to spend in the museum? Should I do it before the show? We are making a weekend out of it. What else would you recommend to do?

The WHO have been running final tours for the better part of 42 years. Love this band, have seen them numerous times going back to 79 ( Igloo, preceded by the GD at the Warner, that weekend is a story in debauchery
itself ) and quite frankly, they have never disappointed.

Wish they were even remotely close to Pittsburgh and they fit in Tgar’s schedule.

Go and Rock out if you have the chance. Daltrey is probably in better shape than just about anyone here on the board other than @Tom McAndrew

I love the Who and I think they have aged better than most of the bands from the 60’s. Roger’s voice has good days and bad days. I’m told that he can be a bit of a hypochondriac.

I listen to lots of things, from Buddy Guy to Grace Bowers, I prefer blues-based music, but if a band can play, I'll listen.

The museum is terrific but on the smaller side. It can be done in an hour. Maybe allow a bit longer given it’s on an event day. They will shut it down close to show time so I’d ask when that will happen.
Other things to check out, make sure you tour the field where the festival was held. They did some work restoring some walking paths not long ago. I’ve not been on them yet. The night I saw Santana they had other buildings open that had vendors selling arts and crafts and other memorabilia. Check out the website. Have fun.

I guess it depends on whether you’re the kind of person who actually reads the descriptions on the exhibits in a museum or just breezes through. 🙂 But I’d say if you’re a serious classic rock fan, I’d give yourself 2-4 hrs.

It’s a pretty rural area. It’s about 20-25 mins from the Upper Delaware River, which is good for canoeing/kayaking/fishing. The small towns of Callicoon and Narrowsburg along the river have some decent restaurants. Also not far from Monticello, NY, which has a race track.

The museum is on top of a hill. The current amphitheater is on the opposite side of that hill from where the ‘69 stage and crowd were. I agree with Reno that you should check out that other side of the hill. There’s a plaque at the bottom.

If you drive around the grounds, you may also spot the pond where people were skinny dipping.

You’re making comparisons across two drastically different professions.
Age takes its toll on most professions. If I just want to hear them sing, I’ll listen to Spotify. If I want to see a performance, I’d rather not watch really old guys bumble around on stage.

Old guys like Gary Brooker? Yeah, who would have wanted to see this anyway...

The NBA isn’t as good as it was back in the 80’s, but I don’t want them bringing out Michael Jordan, Larry Bird, and the rest to play right now in their 60’s and 70’s. It would be sad much like seeing the Stones play in their 90’s regardless of how good they used to be.
really so one loses the ability to play an instrument after 60? running and jumping after 60 quite a a different skillset and in no way analogous

You don’t lose ability but musical skills deteriorate, especially vocals.

I saw them in 2002 at Hershey stadium. Not long after the passing of John Entwistle. Townshend told everyone to FO as they took the stage. The crowd cheered. Knew it would be a great show after that.

Yes he did, good memory. They sold soundboard CDs of the whole tour and it proves that this show was a good one. Robert Plant added as support after buying the Who tix. Thanks I'll take some Zeppelin with my Who.

Pete also remarked that the rolling green hills of Hershey reminded him of home.

The only important Who announcement for the year is the release of Oval '71 on CD and vinyl, coming soon!

I also bought the discs for that show. Pearl Jam has done that since 2000. It’s the best souvenir. It’s fun to give them a listen. Roger and Pete bitched about the heat and the bugs all night. It was pretty bad.

I can’t think of The Who without thinking of the Stampede in Cincinnati in 1979. I wrote about it a few years ago.

I finally got to see them in 2007, I remember thinking that might be their last tour. Sheesh.

Here's my post with an updated AI discussion embedded.

Yeah, Plant opening was lost that night for me. His set and band, which Was enjoyable, would have been better delivered in a club.
