A non-existent offensive scheme....It's only designed to be used in certain situations..not as a primary weapon!

You went to the well once too often

We played not to lose from midway 3rd quarter untill we went
to the Wildcat on the last drive.
Ran it way way to much on that drive. Georgia just lined up &
stopped it after a while.

Playing not lose instead of playing to win is an old Kentucky trait.

When the defense knows the option to throw is non-existent, it becomes an easy stop

- We need to go to Wildcat only in short yardage needs...but since it worked so well vs. inferior teams, I think the staff thinks it is a legit formation vs. all teams.
- It all boils down to the staff isn't all that confident in Johnson with the ball in his hands...and maybe they have every right to as they see him in practice as well.

I'd love to see in bowl practices a heavy focus on Johnson to improve his passing and come out in bowl game and let him toss it around a bit more. At least see if he can be a viable passing threat going into next year.

It was more Snell than scheme on that last series. Snell was getting hit in the backfield and just refused to go down a couple of times to keep the drives alive. Once Smart called the timeout to chew them out for not wrapping up and finishing the tackle the Wildcat was finished.

Johnson is limited in his passing options, and when he does make a good throw there are a lot of drops. Kentucky went to the well too often, but I don't know what else they could have done.

UK is playing with one hand tied behind its back with the QB position, coaches are doing about all they can do, but it is painfully obvious (e.g., the last first and goal series) that they have very little confidence in SJ under pressure. He does occasionally throw a nice deep ball, which keeps teams honest under normal circumstances, but inside the red zone, other teams know he is unlikely to beat them with an accurate pass.

I agree with these thoughts. We are a quarterback away from having a really good team. The risk of losing the ball and the inability to be accurate on the short and intermediate routes puts to much at risk for our offense.

What the hell else are we going to do? Smitty isn't Joe Montana.

Wildcat is the only reason we have one the games we have.

The wildcat was ok with me , but we needed go outside with it a couple times or hand off to the motion man to loosen up the middle. The Ga D gave us everything but the middle and we kept pounding the middle.

not sure Gran and Hinshaw can devolp
a QB
Right... because they have been in the program forever, and they invested so much time in him prior to Barker going down.

Are you serious? They haven't been on the staff long enough to fully "develop" anyone.

People need to face facts. We are doing pretty well with a bandaid at the position. I like the guy, and feel like the coaches are largely doing the best they can to utilize him in view of his skills, but he is almost certainly NOT the QB of our (2017) future. To his credit, he seems to handle adversity well, but unfortunately he creates too much of it, and just does not provide us a credible varied passing game.

Next year is the year to judge whether Gran and Hinshaw can develop a QB. If SJ cannot be brought along, then either Barker(?),Hoak, or Clark must be. If we do not have better play at the position next year, it will be time to indict.

It will be a crime if we don't, because as long as we do, you can quit parsing out the difficulty of the schedule and just say, "UK can compete."

Agree. That's why I'm going to be grateful we are going to bowl this year, and be really, really, really positive about next year.

Please think before you type...good land that's a horrible take. They lost their #1 QB early in year and get a Grambling level talent to take us to a bowl and you're ripping them.

Look Johnson needed a redshirt also... he needs muscle. They can't trust him to keep ball in read option because of fear of injury and turnover because he's to damn weak.

They did not want to pull redshirt off of Hoak. These guys are trying there best. IMO Vandy & Miss St are better than us and USC probably is too with the new throwing QB

I expect Hoak to be the man next year if Barker can't play.
