I am pretty sure his name is Tyrone not Terrence as was written but I may be wrong. I always called him coach or T. Several years ago he was hitting fungo in a JV game and missed the ball. A couple of the opposing players laughed (and he did a bit). The opposing coach called his kids over and lit into them informing them there was not a single one of them that could tote his jockstrap to the cleaners. When he told them about his accomplishments they were a bit dumbfounded. Good man!
His name is Tyrone , The Terrance that DPX mentioned was Terrance “ Danko” Horne , who was a lineman .

Teams still generally shy away from playing teams above them in classifications because of the injury risk...Coaches don't want players to get injured, or put players at "more risk" of getting injured before conference play...At least I know that is one of the reasons Coach Cash chooses to play the teams out of conference that he does. And to those that complain about TJ because of their conference schedule, TJ doesn't exactly have a say in the conference they are in...Nor does any team.

And also, I think the main reason TJ is ranked above Mitchell and Murphy, is because of their win over 2AA North Lincoln in week 1 of the regular season. If they had lost the game, or just played a push over 1A team, they would very likely have been ranked below Murphy and Mitchell imho
Thing is Mitchell plays in a 2a/1a conference and only 2 other teams in it are 1a. Non-conference games (1)4A (1) 3AA (1)3A (1) 2AA teams. Would probably play 2A or 3A schools in the other two games but its like one 3A coach said he wasn't going to take aachance playing a small 1a school and getting beat. 3A North Buncombe dropped Mitchell because of this.

One thing is incorrect in your statement here Print. During the Elkin state titles Mt Airy was down for them which was still 8 or 9 Win seasons and East Surry was the conference champions during two of those Elkin titles in the early 2000’s. As a matter of fact in 2003 I think Elkin was third in the conference behind East Surry and Starmount. I do agree that the NW 1A is very weak and the MVAC and WPC may be even worse. Like you said the only thing that keeps the NW conference above water is East Surry and Mt Airy.

Yeah that 02 Elkin championship was a joke. That may have been the weakest small 1a field ever. A lot of JV teams would have made the 3rd or 4th round. They didn’t cross midfield vs Starmount and the ES game was at least a 3 score game.

North Lincoln is also likely better than Madison, Franklin and R-S Central. And really the only other good team in your conference this season is Mountain Heritage

Every one is better then Madison or RS Central. And yes our conference was down this year. But all they can do non- conference games is try who knew Franklin was going to have a down year, Mitchell also played Erwin who is 5 seed in 3AA first game of the year after being behind pretty good at halftime Mitchell came back and loss by 10 but Mitchell is young loss a lot of starter from last year and has improved since that game. Point they don't shy away from bigger schools, theory is even if you lose it makes you better for conference play and playoffs.

TJ is a relatively young team also, lost a number of starters/seniors from last year, and has gotten better (minus some injuries that have set us back) since the beginning of the season. TJ was behind 13-0 about the time that I arrived late to the game, but fought back to win that game against a team that has ended up being pretty good this season. North Lincoln had the loss to TJ, a pretty good 3A Alexander Central, and a 1 point loss to Bandys.

Well one thing about it Mitchell & TJ has alot of work to do before they would even have a chance to play each other. I tell one thing if they both win out and end up playing for the West Regional Chapionship TJ better find some more visitor side seats because Mitchell travels well, several away games we out numberd the home team.

Yes... Tyrone Horne... also member of the Beta Club at West Montgomery. He was the BEST player that West Montgomery has ever had. Three sports and even better outside the playing field. Came back and gave back. Took baseball to another level when he was on the field. He played with the Sumter Flyers in the early 90's and he was hitting batting practice and both teams were watching in awe. Those balls had to be going 500 feet each time. It was in the summer and it was hot...but DAMN...we went down to see him and he delivered.

Have you seen the vistor section recently? I would love to see a away team pack TJ's visitor stands...don't think it's happened yet in the new stands

In a non conference regular season game, we will bring 1000+. A big time playoff game, maybe 3000. We packed one side of wake forest in 15. Had about 7500 fans come for that one... we don't mind traveling lol

Capel, Poole, Tyrone Horne , Drake , Horne/Leake, Jordan , Little , right off the top of my head and I’m in a parking lot and on the other side of county , so there are most likely many many more that I don't know of or can think of , I’m sure he can .

Btango if you notice I left off the names that Sweater had mentioned just to add to his list. I never Mentioned any of the names above listed. It goes without saying that these are names that are well known and mentioned when you speak of the great players. To think I didn't know Tyrone is a mistake. This is a tough time for the Montgomery County folks. East and West. I was challenged to provide a list of 20. I did. Plus 30. When the younger kids come around, and God I hope they do, the combination of East and West will be a potential good thing. All about the Head Coach.

That's good to hear. Well I think close to 1000 went two years ago to Murphy and you're alot closer then them. We've had 3500 go to MTN heritage games. 7000 to Wake Forest the year we went to 1AA championship. This year at Madison we filled up the visiting side with people standing and more had to sit on the home side. Funny thing is there is less then 16k population in the whole county, we just don't have anything else to do lol.

Oh well in that case, I don't think we have that much seating...There are metal bleachers on the visitor side but they probably won't seat more than 1,000 (if that)

Except for MTN heritage no one ever fills our visitor side. It concrete built into the bank like the home side and holds about 1500 to 2000 plus plenty grass to put a camper chair.

There's plenty of room at TJ for chairs, and TJ could put in another set of bleachers on the visitor side. Also in my opinion, TJ has one of the best stadiums in 1A at least from a viewing perspective. Bleachers sit up on hills above the field. Also the field drains pretty good...

No track running between the bleachers and the field, which is one of the things about some stadiums that annoys me the most. A pretty nice scoreboard, nothing fancy, but nice and big...except it seems we have had a lackadasical scoreboard operater this year

We don't have the best facilities, no clubhoouse for the players and we don't have vistor concessions/restrooms, which is something we should fix in the future...But for watching the game, TJ's stadium is pretty good.

I to think tj will be the favorite vs Robbinsville but most on here think Robbinsville to be the favorite. So Im not sure a Robbinsville win in 3 weeks would be an upset to most.

You’re right. 2002 was the season Elkin finished 3rd because they couldn’t stop Griggs from ES and they couldn’t cross midfield vs Starmount.

He is kinda right about the current state of the MVAC and NW conference. If Starmount is down the MVAC is a joke. The NW is MA and ES and then NOTHING.
