The one that drives me crazy is play by play announcers that STILL don't understand the intentional grounding rules. Very frequently I'll see a QB throw a ball out of the pocket near a receiver and the dumbass announcer will say "that's intentional grounding - he's still in the tackle box"; or the QB is out of the tackle box and throws a ball near an eligible receiver that doesn't make it to the line of scrimmage "the ball didn't reach the line of scrimmage, that's intentional grounding" no dumbass, there was an eligible receiver there. Then the color commentator has to come back and explain the rule that as long as he is passing somewhere near an eligible receiver it's not grounding.

How much behind the scenes work it takes to put on a sporting event.

QFT, it amazes me how many people work on the infrastructure for several weeks before and after the Barbasol + how many volunteers it requires to put on a pro tournament. And that is a really small PGA event only on the Golf Channel, cannot imagine what the PGA or US Open looks like on ESPN or a major network.

East Lake starts putting up structures/ropes in June for the TC.

5) The only time you can move your pivot foot when taking the ball out of bounds is after a made basket. Watch closely on HS and college and pro games...walking should be called a ton on out of bounds plays (especially sideline OOB plays) but the refs almost NEVER call it unless it’s a blatant ā€œrunning the baselineā€ violation.

This is incorrect. There is no "walking" or "traveling" on a throw in. You have a designated 3 foot wide spot from which one foot has to remain in during the throw in, but you do not have to be stationary during the count.

Two regulation men's basketballs (placed side by side) will fit through a regulation diameter goal.

A D3 home basketball game, when combining all the prep work, pre game, in-game, and post-game work, I would estimate took about 16 hours of work at my last school for a game that lasted two freaking hours.

I once worked 18 hours in 1.5 days to put on one D3 lacrosse NCAA Tournament game all while having a personal health emergency to deal with at the same time. And that doesn't even include the normal stuff I have to do 2-3 hours before game time nor any of the in-game or post-game stuff. We won that game and thank God we got to go on the road for the next one. Had a 10-hour, round-trip bus ride for that game and it was still less hours on the clock than hosting a home tournament game.

I loved having winning teams that would make the tournament, but I also wasn't mad when they didn't because of all the damn work that's involved if you're hosting.

That the quarterback presses his hands firmly against the back of a sweaty man’s balls for an hour every game.

Upon success, then high fives all his friends so they can share in the pleasure of the pungent aroma of vinegary wet sack.

Apparently some don't know that if you tie a loop in garage door pull rope, to make it easier to close the garage door in a NASCAR garage, that the NASCAR officials will call the FBI and report it as a hate crime.

I was robbed of a home run in little league because the stupid umpire didn’t know that a ball that hits the foul pole is a fair ball home run.

I’m left handed. I hit a frozen rope down the right field line. It hit the foul pole about a foot above the right field fence. I started to trot around the bases. Umpire ruled it a foul ball because the ball hit the foul pole and landed foul. My coach was ejected. My dad was ejected for running on the field a d calling the ump a clueless moron. My dad was threatened with arrest. The ump was a local cop who was both an ******* and an extreme idiot. Good times.

We didn't beat the USSR to win the gold medal in the Miracle on Ice game, even though a lot of people think we did. However, it was just the first game of the medal round, of course. We beat Finland to win the gold.

True. Plus, most don't know that we also beat USSR in the 1972 Olympics basketball final, but lost simultaneously to the referees.

Gordon Bombay missed the game winning shot in pee wee hockey. Despite his failure and alcoholism he managed to become a lawyer. After yet another drunken incident he somehow became a world famous celebrity by coaching a rag tag bunch of poor kids at hockey. He taught everyone that having things such as talent and equipment are not necessary as long as you have grit, a montage, and some random Scandinavian dude that knows how to sharpen a skate.

Pro golfers never take a mulligan. As a non-golfer, I don't understand why they don't. Seems like a perfectly reasonable thing to do at times. Please explain.

A bit OT, but "Of Ice and Men" about the 1980 USSR hockey team from the Soviet POV is one of the best 30 for 30 episodes ever. 40 years later and they still remember every minute of that match, like we remember Laettner's shot in the NCAA.

One Soviet player said that in his career he won world championships, Olympic gold medals and a Stanley Cup as a pro, and the only damn match anyone ever asked him about was the 1980 loss to the USA. A Soviet sports writer said it best, that USSR team would have beaten the US 99 times out of a 100 . . . . but that was the one. šŸ˜„

In high school football (at least in Kentucky), pass interference does NOT include an automatic first down.

In college football the clock does not stop when you go out of bounds until the clock is under 2 minutes in second and fourth quarters (nfl is similar except it’s 5 minutes left in the 4th). Announcers continually act confused by this and it drives me crazy.

Why is the ball touching a goal-line pylon considered a TD since the pylons are located OOB?

That is a good question, I have wondered that myself, unless they touch the inside surface of the pylon

Your mistake is listening to announcers.

That running an extra-point try after a blocked kick attempt across goal line is only one point.

That once punting team touches ball across LOS that the ball is live to receiving team with no negative possibility.

Because the ball is still not on the ground. You can run free down the sidelines and hold the ball out of bounds the entire 50 yards and as long as no body part hits the ground out of bounds and you are fine.

BYU football (Independent) went 5-0 vs Pac-12 teams this season.

13 out of 14 SEC football teams are bowl eligible after playing 2021 season.

That's more likely going to happen the fewer conference games schools play since they don't beat each other up as much. SEC is still clearly the best. P12/B12/B1G play 9 conference games while ACC/SEC are at 8. Outside Vandy, SEC was 47-5 non-conference. Losses were to UCLA, Pitt, PSU, Memphis, Boston College.
