Things we heard in preseason that are far from true....

1. Secondary is a strong point - the wide open 2 WR for a TD where all 3 DBs bit on the fake was, quite possibly, the worst pass defense I've ever seen in 45+ years of watching CFB. The complete breakdown against USM cannot, I repeat, cannot happen unless the kids are just not coached very well.
2. Interior OL will be a strength - Nope. Still getting manhandled too much of the time. How is it at UK that upperclassmen consistently regress while other teams seem to get better with experience?
3. Matt Elam will be much better - Nope. Still no technique. Still almost invisible on almost every play. Still not demanding a double team.
4. Drew Barker will be an upgrade - Nope. Accuracy a problem - check. Arm strength a problem - check. Ability to buy time/extend plays a problem - check. Ability to make quick, good decisions on where to go with the ball a problem - check. (OL protection a problem - check. It may definitely enhance the above-mentioned Barker problems).
5. More athletic LBs - Nope. Jones has been very good for us. Love has not shown much thus far. Kobie Walker was completely lost against USM. Laster, Allen, et al - just not good enough for SEC play yet (maybe ever - TBD).
6. ST would be better - Nope. Consistently give up yards every exchange (that is, when we actually force a team to punt). FG attempts have become an adventure (again, how does a really solid FR kicker become so unreliable by the time he's a SR? I don't get it). No threat whatsoever to take a kick back a long way. A 'long' return is somewhere north of our own 30 yard line. Pitiful - again.

I could go on, unfortunately.

It's all a scam bro. Just a bunch of ding dongs trying to make themselves feel smart.

Optimism/Pessimism versus reality. How disciplined are you?

Well, based on 2 games, it is really hard to disagree with the OP.

When the defensive backs must play linebackers to stop the run did you think they would not get burned?

Otherwise about on target.

Gotta disagree. The USM wide open receiver was terrible. They weren't supporting the run with less than a minute to go. Just made a horrendous play.

The fake WR screen against UF was flat out embarrassing. All 3 DBs bit on the and allowed two WRs to run 15 yards behind them where either could have walked into the end zone. Again, not supporting the run on that play. Just laughable execution. Where is the coaching and development of these players? So far, Westry has looked worse. Baity- worse. Edwards - worse. The more coaching they receive, the worse they get, evidently.

How about "We will be using the tight ends a lot in this offense"

This is the one that drives me mad. If we look back to the times that we were the most successful it was when we had a TE that produced a lot on the field, Whalen and Tamme.

So does @fredmaggard

There is a glaring hole in the quality of football analysts in Lexington.

It's because the handful of actual football "analysts" break down into two categories:

1. Former players that are wearing blue tinted glasses or want access to the program so they handle the program with kid gloves, or

2. Beat writers that are new or low on the totem pole at their newspaper/tv station and are forced to cover UK football until they get some experience or work their way up to being a columnist or UK basketball beat writer

You can't really expect either one of those to hold UK football or the administration accountable. One has too much to lose and the other doesn't care. They couldn't care less if UK wins in the nation's most popular sport. They're working in the proverbial mail room until they can work their way up to being the basketball beat writer.

I get the whole coach speak thing - they can't come out in preseason and say we suck - but what is the point over dramatically overselling everything? I would think any halfway competent coach couch see in practice that this was not going to be our year. The OL, the lateral movement on defense, the DL situation, players not knowing their assignments... What is so wrong with coming out and being like "this is a transition year where we'll play our young recruits and get them experience for a run in 2017." I'd rather have gone into the season looking for the new guys to grow instead of be massively disappointed. Even more, it would have been possible to sell with 3 Kentucky kids (Barker, Ka. Daniel, Young) as a growing nucleus. Why did they push expectations so high when they knew they'd never reach them?

The truth is horrible coach and every preseason he's hyped us up to be something we're not. It's absurd. I honestly believe he thinks the fans don't know a thing about football.

With our offensive and defensive lines in preseason, coach Saban may not have known how good or bad we were, lol.

How about all the hype King was getting at RB? Has he even gotten a carry in either game?

I wonder if we stacked the box on teams if they could still run right thru us, if our secondary is our strong point, couldn't we gamble some with stopping the run, the line of scrimmage is where teams are eating us up?

To be fair, we didn't actually see any offense on Saturday, so it's hard to judge much of what they plan to do.
I think that's part of the problem there is no plan. Another year of no offensive identity. I they had moved the chains a few times we would have seen offense.
