Thinking about buying new set of irons.

Can move to golf thread if needed. But haven't got a new set in about a decade, just new grips. Going to go to a simulation pad before but anyone have any favorites that have come out last few years?

I'm no scratch golfer but I figure if I can hit my driver and fairway woods deeper sure that's the same with irons these days.

I got fitted for Mizuno JPX 900 Hot Metals last year. They are the easiest clubs I have ever hit. Also tried Callaway Apex, Ping i200, Callaway XR16, & Mizuno JPX 900 forged.

I’m still hitting 96 cobras. They are not forgiving. Horrid clubs. Been looking at a set of Pinemeadows on Amazon for a few years. We shall see.

Another thing to consider now is the mixed set option. I know with the Mizuno JPX 900’s they have the Hot Metal, Forged, & Tour. You could go Hot Metal 4 & 5, Forged 6-8, Tour 9-GW. Something like that. You can mix in hybrids on the top end as well. Main thing is to get fitted, go somewhere with a lot of options, & have an open mind. You may be surprised what you like. Take your time with each shot you hit as well. Don’t just turn into a robot in that booth. That can cause you to groove something in your swing that isn’t there most of the time and mislead the results. Stand behind the ball, take a couple practice swings, aim and set up normally and then hit. Also once you find the magic 7 iron, hit shots with other clubs in the set as well. Make sure it’s not just a great 7 iron. Remember most 7 irons are easy to hit, but you want to make sure the 4 iron works and the PW has the feel and look you need too.

I’ve had great experience going through the pre-owned sites.....like Callawaypreowned.com. You can save quite a bit of $ by buying very slightly used and/or previous models. Anything listed as “like new” condition is indistinguishable from new in my case.

And like dgtatu said, most places will let you try before buy.

Absolutely no reason to not get hybrids. I’m hitting Adams hybrid irons and playing the best golf of my life. Super forgiving, long, and high trajectory. Try backing up a 3 iron from 245 - you can do that with a long hybrid iron.

Titleist...But I would love to try the PXG irons. They are very appealing to the eye, but I am done buying clubs. bought a set of Titleist CB's about 5 yrs ago and love them. These will be it for me. Too old to buy more. Broke too.

Exactly what I was thinking, especially if you own a complete set of hybrid irons. Didn’t want to be the one to say it though lol

The 3-5 are hybrids.

I’d be happy to play with any of you guys since you’re message board pros.

That’s a little better, but still doubt you are carrying a 3 hybrid 245 and sucking it back. I mean that’s tour pro quality..

That’s a fair point. Not sucking it back like a gap wedge. Hit and stick can be done though - something I could never do with a standard 3 iron.

I get ur drift, but you sure u aren’t talking about that one shot u hit with it from 245 with a 20 mph wind behind ur back and the green 20 yds below u? Lol

I am hitting the Ping G-2's and absolutely love them. The 3-5 iron are the hybrid irons and are truly the best irons (hybrid) that I have ever hit.
