Yeah, I missed that guy's half comment. But even at 5-7 or 10%, that's too many. We tend to say in the right lane, but the number of people drifting between lanes because they are staring at their phones is scary on the Parkway.
5-7% of 1000 cars is what?

This thread drove me to look at stats. The average American checks their cellphone 344 times per day. 😳. No doubt that the students are on the high side and old geezer on the low one.

Yeah, but you did say "half". I missed that. Half would be a lot. We are good. While I hate the word "entitled," we are entitled to a little hyperbole every now and then. . .

Now that is funny calling out the student section for cell phone usage. Just drive along any highway or road in the USA and you can see 100 cars and over half are probably on their cell phones …young and old alike. Technology is great but we have nobody to blame but society itself. They were having a good time. That is all that matters.

Let the game and crowd develop organically. It is not difficult. They figure it out at the basketball games not to mention every other campus in America. We have good fans.

Come take a ride any day of the week on route 1 from South Brunswick NJ up to Rahway NJ …rush hour is a joke especially with all the accidents occurring.

With more people returning to the office we're almost back to bumper cars on Rte. 4. And it:s still less than half.

Yeah- agree with the OP, the music canned in on 3rd down sucks- and worse yet, they do it when we have the ball to except they stop it when we get to the line.

And I may be the only one that thinks this but our student section with the arm wave chant sort of kills the loudness as well.
Back when the stadium was loud- all I remember was the scoreboard telling us to make noise and it worked.

On a different subject- Did we hand out white pom poms for a blackout game? Did they deliver the wrong order?

Back to the OP - I am very curious with the group posting. Who here losses their mind and voice on every 3/4th down and bid defensive plays.

I would bet that on half of the people posting do this.

There are a few posters who could absolutly confirm I am a nut on these plays even if the game is already decided one way or another.

Bob, would you please do me and this thread a favor and start an OT topic on cell phone use in cars. I'm not going to respond to you further in this thread on this topic. This is a friendly request. No need to escalate and argue. Too many threads get derailed and ultimately locked, and we can avoid this. Thank you, sir.

That's the entire point. To confirm it's third down, after I look to the big scoreboard in the South end zone that does not have the score and then try to find the micro score board, to see third down, wait 90 seconds for Nolan to finish his schtick, and then the punt team is on or it's first down for the other team. Absolutely kills the whole third down make some noise feel.

Just stating a fact of what police in the county have said off the record.

You forgot Joe Nolan drowning out all of the above with his “iiiiiiiittttttttttttttttttttttssssssss thhhhhhhhhhiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiirrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrd down”
I think he actually does it longer than he does it here in this video and with some sort of weird affect.

That is what he used to do at Rutgers. Still
Too long in my opinion. His new iteration started midway through last year is just obnoxious and doesn’t allow for crowd involvement.

My understanding is that he has been asked to do that to squelch the F Penn State chants. With every "blessing" there is a curse. Rutgers Rutgersing. Making easy things difficult and worse. Again and again and again.

does anyone actually have influence to get thru to the production guy? Jon Newman? The production on defense is terrible but especially on 3rd down. The entire home field advantage is being smothered.

And it takes way too long for him to say “aaaaaaaaANnnnn. Iiiiiiiitttttssss thiiiirrrdddd down.

What the actual f is the plan? Isn't it about making noise and disrupting the team on offense?

1. Joe Nolan- please stop.
2. Metallica intro- they are purposely killing it to cut off the F Penn State
3. Ham- handed all around, no build up, can't get a noise build, especially with #1

Seems like a lot of attempts just to suppress F Penn State.

Oh, and F Penn State
Barely noticed it and have no problem with it - I've always loved the train horn though. And for my money, the DJ music is better this season. I liked that they did a nice Buffet tribute last week and a nice Smash Mouth/Harwell tribute last night, although they missed Gary Wright. They're also doing a bit more Bruce, which I think most like. Also thought the AC/DC/Queen mix was creative.

I only check mine frequently when I'm driving, lol Just kidding - I probably check my phone 20-30 times a day, tops, probably because I'm on my laptop a lot more frequently than the phone. And the only thing I ever do on my phone in while driving is glancing at directions - texting while driving is just nuts.

Metallica
Air horn
New goofy sword noise
And remember “All aboard”

That all happens in 6-8 seconds every third down. It’s too much.
We were watching the game the other night and noticed the cacophony of sound bites. My wife said something to the effect of, what the heck is with the noise, I'm not going to any Rutgers games. I told her I'd read that the volume is cranked WAY UP, too. Sounds very un-fan-friendly.

Let it be more organic and let the band play more!

This is what a good crowd sounds like without Joe Nolan and a train whistle interrupting:

That's an insta-complain after saying you never complain.

I used to live in Rahway , not far from the Harley dealership. I really liked that town. Walking distance to a few bars.

My buddy lived on the other side of 27, near Bramhall.
