Janowski...not sure when you came aboard but this board was pretty vibrant back in the late 90s to mid 2000s...Bannon years to Waters year
the combination of the success in football and the turd that was Fred Hill Jr killed it and even with a few bright spots with Rice, it never recovered and spun further into the abyss with Jordan. I think gradually I have seen an uptick in interest and posting and see what a few wins have now done. When this team gets really good, its going to be sick here.

I miss the days when the board would list the number of "registered users" online. This board would typically be less than 100 people online on non-game days, but then spike to several hundred when things were going good or if it was a gameday.
Personally been laying low since the Fordham loss (which felt like a similar dagger to Stonyford approaching) - when the defeat was cemented, decided to step away for a bit.
I just hope this board doesn’t finish in last place again
I started lurking during the Waters years and it was actually basketball that drew me here, maybe even your game recaps!

Rutgers fans are very, very hungry for a winning program in football or men's basketball. Hoops is making better progress so it's only natural there is more traffic on the board.

Exactly.. but I always found it strange that some wanted to use that "users online" figure to compete board vs board.. and to insist that Rutgers was a basketball school and not a football school.
And in GS early days it was asked here what would happen first.. a bowl game or an NCAA invite.
Just silly stuff.
I want both. But football is more important. And now I have to wonder.. which is easier NOW that we are in the Big Ten East... a bowl game or the NCAA's?
Been a season ticket holder since 1990 and only realized there was a board after 2000. Lurked a bit then posted starting in 2005. Was always surprised at the relatively low number of posters on this board versus football, but have enjoyed the regular analysis here by many of the regulars for nearly 15 years, even the lengthy ones from Bac and Jelly and Hawk. Glad to see some juice on here again.
I think a lot of people watch the boards and have interest. It's just hard to find time for a team/coach who didn't show much potential. Pikiell has shown promise with his success, so you'll see people talk more. There's much more to talk about with positive stuff than negative garbage. But there's ALWAYS people checking in on the boards. Winning gives them their voices back (me included).

I saw passes that took balls and missed, but very fun to see the risk. does the coach do that or the individual players? Wild long bounce passes to O or Doorson, mostly by Gio, but very cool even if mishandled.
I for one used to love this board especially the back and forth with them SHU fans. Over time as we sucked I stopped reading I think I have been on here more this year than the last 7 years combined
I didn’t folllow b-ball or this board for years. Had no reason to hope with our last few coaches. Ever since pike was hired I was back on board. Haven’t felt this hopeful with a coach and program at Rutgers ever. Not even Schiano.
Don't post a lot but do read most threads. I always thought this board was a bit more adult than the free football board, even when things were REALLY bad.
Well yeah, losing will do that... create a community of intellectuals who will still bang their heads against walls repeatedly hoping it won't hurt the next time
Football might be more important for revenue because we owe so much for the build. Other than that, more people than you realize care a lot more about the basketball program than the football program
It may be more than he realizes but it’s not more overall.
I think its because of the intimacy aspect. I think hoops fans think of themselves as part of the program because for one most of us have been here forever. Most RU fans are over 40 and older simply because there has been little success in the last 25 years. We see the players, they are not wearing helmets, we can read and feel their emotion in a crowd of 6K...you cannot get that in a 45K cavernous stadium. We know all the players by name, we can see the enemy team and direct jeers at their bench.
I have been a season ticket holder for both program since I graduated so thats 25 years of season tickets for both. Football when they sucked during Shea was still cool because I was in my 20s and tailgates were new and fun. They are not new and fun when you have no hope liking with the Ash era. Did not bother to tailgate once this year. When hoops was its worst during Hill and then repeated during Jordan, I was miserable going to games it was a chore. There was literally nothing to talk about unless it was about removing the head coach...Hill and Jordan and both were met with much resistance.
Long term I think Rutgers is better situated to win in hoops than football simply because football is going against juggernauts of the college football world. Its not quite the same in hoops. You have storied program in hoops but not the dominant type where 3 of the top 10 "programs" if not top 5 all reside in our same division. Hoops can carve out a niche that many other Big 10 programs have done. Its getting over that first hurdle in hoops that is the hardest and that it is finally making post season.

... and therefor, we should be investing more in basketball and the RAC and not football and thus reward those old people who can read emotion and feel and jeer the enemy, etc etc.

So happy that Year 4 of Jordan never happened. I kinda get the same feeling of year 4 of Ash, hoping somehow it never happens.
As I may have told you I was a hoops season ticketholder (108) for 22 years, giving them up in 2011. I agree with the intimacy. Also, It was pretty much the same folks sitting around you every year.
