Recruiting is the most efficient way to get talent. You can not get very good talent in portal.

In these types of games (vs top 10 teams), talent is very important.

Garrison and Oweh are the most talented (also most highly ranked) players in our roster and they are best players of us on the court in this game
Well first

Well first recruiting was pretty much wrapped up before Cal jumped ship and took his players with him, and you are wrong you can get talent thru the portal, I think he put a pretty good team on the floor considering the time frame. Do they have flaws yes, but look at this, Cal has more physical talent than Pope but look at what Cal has done with his physical talent verses Pope and his team. I will take Pope and this team all day long. I don't think anyone expected Pope to come in and win a N.C. year one, just be competitive and get us out of the first game of the tournament. Plus did you look at Bama they had transfers, every good team in the SEC has key transfers on their roster.

Moreno, Johnson, and Lewis are 4 stars.
If that translates to multi-year players at UK, then this is perfect recruiting. Of course, transferring after a freshman season is as bad as OAD in regard to a player's value to UK, but my guess is that Pope will retain players better than most.

Johnson is a 5 star and depending on where Moreno is on some. Lewis is rated as #27, so he is out of the 5 star rating. Don't care about there rating, are they basketball players. That means can they shoot, dribble, pass, box out.....the basic fundamentals of the game.

Yep . Coming into this year Hurley had signed exactly ONE top thirty kid at UCONN . And he wasn’t consensus top ten .

I have a lot of responses and thoughts on this thread, but really it comes down to

Not every loss means a conclusion can be drawn. And some of you draw 15 conclusions after every single loss.

Two of our starters were banged up and playing less than 100%. We tied the game up at 81. Bama made some big time 3's down the stretch and the rest is history. If we're playing at 100%, maybe it's a different game. If Bama misses 1 more or we make 1 more 3, we're probably within a bucket at the end of the game.

But this "this game shows" or "this game proves" The only thing this game proves is Alabama is an elite basketball team, and it's hard to beat them. We'll get another crack at it. I hope we're 100%.

The line was like what 1.5?

It was a coin toss game that the other team just happened to win the toss. It's going to happen.

I agree. There doesn't have to be narratives attached to everything,

This ^ is the best post in this whole thread.
Just because they won a close game does not mean they would win it every time, or most of the time, or even half the time.
