Not expecting them all to be productive... but you can't have 5 dead scholarships on your roster. One or two of them have to be able to produce when a player inevitably gets hurt or goes through a rough patch.

Solid teams have guys waiting for their chance to make a mark. The only guy outside our "Starting Five Plus One" that has really showed an ability to play at this level is Simpson.
ya agree. wasn't disagreeing. can't have 5 dead and RU has 3 for sure. I was just saying the other 2 could be okay. "could" also don't forget Terry is the 6th. so that's 4 by my count at least.

The only thing I lay at Pike's feet for the last 8 games is roster building - we just had no depth at all this year.

Palmquist, Reiber, Woolfolk, Chol, Miller just didn't show they are able to play at this level this season... taking 5 scholarships.

Over the last 8 games, they have combined for:
39 points (4.9)
21 rebounds (2.6)
3 assists (0.4)
2 steals (0.3)
2 blocks (0.3)
8 turnovers (1.0)

They were ineffective on offense and defense and put a ton of pressure on the 6 remaining guys to do everything after Mag went down. Mulcahy then deteriorates (very possibly playing hurt - but regardless of reason, his output dropped dramatically), and there was just no one there to turn to.
Good post but Chol didn’t play this year

Woolfolk and Chol might turn into something - but they weren't there this year. We have 5 recruited scholarship guys on the bench that we can't turn to for production - they are just there to eat time while other players catch a breather.

Mag's absence put a spotlight on this - we were fine when we had 6 primary guys, and a 7th in Simpson who could make some noise off the bench. Reiber/Woolf could be used for spot minutes to give Omoruyi a breather. Right now, we have 5 guys and Simpson... and we can't rest more than one player at a time without some position getting exposed.

Zero adjustments and bad substitutions!! We lose Mag and with that another presence in the paint area. We leave Cliff on an island by himself and teams know to double him bc he isn’t a great passer. This is also on other players who don’t know how to create space or screen to free each other up. Why not try something different? Maybe have wolf out there with cliff??

Accountability….Hyatt or Simpson make a mistake they get pulled. Paul is struggling and while I love him he needs to sit. Try different rotations. Also his subs of 2-3 players at a time is the most frustrating thing ever(even when we were winning in the past) because it crushes our team as if they haven’t played together before.

I’m actually starting to see the cracks in the coaching

The recipe that NW, Michigan and Iowa used against us was to pressure the ball. We don't move well without the ball on offense. And our ball handlers become flustered. It's a zero risk move on defense for our opponents. Expect the same against Michigan. Mulcahy can pass well but hes not a point guard that poses a scoring threat. We need a point guard next year! Pike has upped the recruiting. We need to let it play out.
exactly. michigan did this extremely well and we couldn’t do jack most of the game. Against pressure you either need to screen and cut well away from the ball, pass out of pressure, or have players that can attack the pressure. We don’t do any of those well or have those type of players. If someone is going to be up in your grill they can be beat off the dribble if you have decent speed of our strong with the ball

At least we don’t have to worry about anyone poaching our coach.

Woolf is a project that committed to basketball full time his senior season of HS, true freshman shows promises, he will make leaps and bounds next year.

Chol is redshirting, and reclassified from 2023. Way way too early..

Palmquist is a one dimensional player offensively, and is serviceable on defense, probably why his minutes increased for any offense he can give.

Reiber is playing with zero confidence offensively, and is good defensively but that s not what we need on the floor is a defensive player with zero confidence in shooting got plenty of those eating up most of the minutes.

Jalen Miller provides no offense either.

Palmquist and Reiber have tried their post up game against the B1G and showed little to no progress of getting better..

Mag was top 3 EFG% guys, 2nd or 3rd leading rebounder, 2nd best defehder perimeter or post, and our 2nd option in post up offense. He was a jack of all trades in 23 starts in 23 games.

can anyone tell me why we extended his contract in the middle of the season? shouldn't everyone focus on the season? it seems totally unnecessary.

Horrendous recruiter until now and a below average coach. Good cheerleader though.

There’s a lot of blame as well on Pike and staff. I go to 4 major issues:

- Lack of team depth after Mag injury.

- Took team too long to play well after Mag injury

- Took too long to defer reins to Derek Simpson

- Minnesota debacle. Last 2 sequences was like watching elementary kids playing especially the last sequence. Lack of coaching there was the final coffin !
