This is how pope coaches the game

Every game is wide open, his teams don’t win unless they score in the 90s. Can’t win games in the 70s. Pope had never had a defense. He was a bad choice for the SEC. His style gets his teams eaten alive when the offense doesn’t show. I’ve been trying to be positive but pope isn’t gonna have the cats at the top of the SEC. His style works out west. It should have stayed that way.

Dude, let him out a team together when he has more than a month and quit being a baby

They are all D1 transfers. Pope can’t coach them to play hard? THEY DON’T PLAY HARD AT ALL. Amari is the only one that doesn’t constantly get outworked.

I don’t see evidence in his 9 year coaching career so suggest that he’s gonna have a capable defense in this league. Prove me wrong
At BYU his defensive rankings were 60, 65, 70, and 30 the last four years. Any of those four would have been good enough for this team with how good the offense was at full strength. We're at 89th before tonight and it'll probably drop into the 100s after tonight. That's a huge difference from where his defense was at BYU.

And they haven't played defense anywhere they have been. They just don't have the athleticism and quite frankly some of them are too dang soft and don't give any effort on defense

We'd be 12th on the cusp of 11th in Kenpom if we defended like BYU did last season.

This is my stinkin point. He isn’t compatible with the SEC. Zero defense. He’s not gonna get another building season next year he’s gonna need to be much higher than 10th in the sec

Yup. At full strength I really believe this team is a 2 or 3 seed. As frustrating as it is at this point, there's not much you can do about the injuries and losing your PG and best on ball defender is just a double whammy that the best coaches would struggle to fix. Add the SEC being an incredibly physical league and the most talented it's ever been and it's just not a recipe for success.

I’m sticking with Mark Pope. He’s had to build a team within a couple weeks and we’ve had bad luck with injuries

Then who would you have tried to hire that was realistic?

If I’m going the route Barney did I’m going after pitino for a 3-5 year run THEN bringing in a pope or other after a few years of pitino coach development.

If I’m going for the program and the program only I figure out how to make nate Oates happen even if I have to have a 1 year interim coach. Nate oates and Kentucky were made for each other.

The blue-tinted goggles people are going to burn you for this. But they are the same people that attacked you and I when we told them very early on that Wheeler wasn’t the guy…

Check out the incoming players and put them alongside the guys expected to return and tell me what next year looks like. The roster will potentially have less talent and will definitely have less experience.

Hard truth no one wants to hear. Literally no one was trying to hire Mark Pope until Barnhart came along
This is true. Pitino’s cheerleading seemed to make an impact. Does Pitino REALLY care that much about Kentucky’s basketball fortunes ??

UK is down its primary and backup PG. It makes a difference.
We beat Gonzaga without Butler. Tennessee just smoked Florida without Zeigler.

We are regressing in almost every area. We were still giving up 100 with Butler. The team is imploding. That is on the coach.
