This is the worst coached team I have ever seen

It won't happen, but Pope has to be convinced by someone to "step down" and have a negotiated lower buyout that's not public at the end of the season. This can't go on. I'll always wish he worked out, but it's time for Bruce Pearl. Is anyone else a good candidate that's realistic?

And I am officially agreeing that Pope is in over his head. The fundamentals are simply not being taught / enforced, that tells me how he isn't running practices or coaching in-game effectively. He was supposed to have that offense savant as an assistant coach, but now I'm wondering if Pope was just blowing smoke in the introduction and at Big Blue Madness or whatever it's called.

There's so much hyperbole around here. I wish the op's post was part of it.

Still Pope’s fault for building this roster, but I don’t even know what kind of sets you could successfully run with this group of players. We don’t have any truly standout shooters, so the defense can pretty much blow up any kind of motion offense by going under everything. We don’t have anyone who can win off the dribble. Our bigs aren’t particularly good at scoring with their back to the basket. I’m not sure it’s possible to have a consistently good offensive output from this team.

In case anyone has doubts, this is far from a defense of Pope. It becomes more jaw dropping with every game we play that he spent the money he did on this roster and was convinced that it was special.

Pope is probably a really good XOs coach. But his players this year are quite bad. On top of that, they don't play hard either by choice or maybe he just can't connect with them. He also committed the cardinal sin by hiring his buddies and/or fulfilling favors when building his staff.

We have a major recruiting issue. He spent historic money on back ups and role players that don't compliment each other or his system. Pope failed in the worst way. Mitch failed too because he should have Shaked some more trees before just grabbing the low hanging fruit with Pope

Don’t think I have ever witnessed an offense worse than this

me either. I think it’s just the worst collective basketball IQ I’ve ever seen.

It could simple, too. You can either create movement by driving or by posting someone deep and setting up kick outs.

This team only had one guy actually good at getting into the lane, Lowe, and another decent, Oweh. So, that is out now.

Honestly, at this point, I’d post Moreno deep. He seems patient and selfless enough to either get a decent shot or kick it out.

One other problem is our shooters don’t do a good job preparing to shoot before the pass. They often don’t have their feet set on the catch to immediately shoot.

If we aren’t running we struggle to score .
